Biden’s DOJ Bullying NYPD Over Cop Cars’ Illegal Parking, Threatens Lawsuit

ANALYSIS – In the you can’t make this up category. Because there isn’t enough real crime to worry about. And since persecuting former President Donald Trump and Capitol rioters isn’t sucking up enough federal law enforcement time and resources, Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) is now going after New York’s finest, the NYPD. 

And no, it’s not about police brutality or anything like that.

Instead, the DOJ has sent a scathing letter to the NYPD over its overworked cops parking their official cruisers on sidewalks near their precincts because they don’t have any other parking available. In the letter the DOJ warns NYPD that their standard practice is a violation of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA). NYPD rightfully argues that parking space near its police stations is extremely limited.

But bullying isn’t enough – the federal agency is threatening the New York Police Department with a federal lawsuit if it doesn’t quickly comply.

“In the event we determine that we cannot secure compliance voluntarily to correct the deficiencies identified in this letter, the Attorney General may initiate a lawsuit pursuant to the ADA,” the letter from the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District Damian Williams read. All this because of a load of left-wing anti-cop activists in NYC. Here is one activist’s obsession with police parking:

NBC New York reported that NYPD isn’t falling over backwards to comply with the ridiculous deadline in DOJ’s letter:

That letter, dated March 29, said the NYPD had two weeks to respond to the DOJ to indicate that the police department was interested in resolving the concerns.

“We are reviewing the letter,” an NYPD spokesperson told News 4 on Sunday, April 21.

According to Williams’ office, the police department’s frequent obstruction of sidewalks and crosswalk near precincts, combined with the amount of time spent blocking public access, has made the city’s pedestrian grid not “readily accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities.”

This, they claim, is because police, and other city vehicles, regularly park on sidewalks and in crosswalks, stating that as a result, it has not “ensured that accessible routes are properly maintained and free from obstructions.”

The letter added: “We would prefer, however, to resolve this matter by working with you to negotiate a court-enforceable agreement that brings the City of New York and NYPD’s practices into compliance with the ADA.”

According to MSN:

The letter recommended that the NYPD adopt a clear parking policy for City vehicles around precincts, and suggested updating training for traffic officers to highlight the impact of parking on sidewalks and crosswalks.

It also proposed creating a procedure for the public to report obstructive City vehicle parking through channels like 311 and suggests that penalties should be imposed on drivers and officers who fail to address these complaints.

Lastly, the DOJ also advised the NYPD to provide quarterly reports to SDNY for three years, detailing complaints, evidence, and resolutions related to obstructive parking.

Or maybe the NYPD can magically create huge parking lots with valets and car lifts, and then officers can take a ticket and wait for their cruisers to be brought to them when responding to a major crime.

Meanwhile, according to the DOJ, the NYPD is fully cooperating with this investigation.
