Armed Clerk Shoots Attempted Robbery Suspect At Gas Station

GRAFTON, VIRGINIA — On November 28, Scott R. Dudley, 39, from Newport News, was apprehended and accused of robbery, abduction by force, and possessing stolen goods after a botched robbery at Joe's Kwik Marts in Grafton. Additionally, Dudley faces grand larceny charges for a separate incident on November 15. Following his hospitalization for injuries sustained during the robbery, Dudley has been detained at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail without bond.

During the attempted robbery at the convenience store, the clerk successfully defended himself by shooting Dudley, leading to the store's closure for investigation. The incident, reported at 9:15 a.m., was described by Sheriff Ron Montgomery as unusual due to the involvement of gunfire. Montgomery recounted that Dudley had taken money from the register and tried to force the clerk into a bathroom. The clerk responded by shooting Dudley in the abdomen and leg. His injuries were not life-threatening.

The clerk has not been charged with any , however the investigation continues.
