A renowned American guitarist, Lee is best known for his work with Osbourne and his own band Badlands. Born Jakey Lou Williams on Feb. 15, 1957, in Norfolk, Virginia, he grew up in San Diego, California. Lee’s style is heavily rooted in blues, hard rock and metal, with his technical prowess and unique tone making him one of the most respected guitarists in rock history.
Lee rose to prominence in the early 1980s when he joined Ozzy Osbourne following the death of guitarist Randy Rhoads. He played on two of Osbourne’s highly acclaimed albums, Bark at the Moon (1983) and The Ultimate Sin (1986), contributing lyrics, memorable riffs and solos.
After his time with Osbourne, Lee formed the band Badlands in 1988, alongside former Black Sabbath vocalist Ray Gillen and drummer Eric Singer. Badlands had a blues-infused hard rock sound and released three albums before disbanding in the early 1990s.
In addition to his work with Osbourne and Badlands, Lee has released solo material. In 2014, he formed a new band, Red Dragon Cartel and has remained active in the hard rock scene.
His family has requested privacy during this difficult time.
