Bill Gates is expected to appear before the House Oversight Committee as part of its ongoing investigation into the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, placing the tech billionaire among a growing list of high-profile figures connected to the probe.
According to reporting from CBS News, Gates is scheduled to sit for a transcribed interview on June 10. The committee has already heard from several prominent individuals, including former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and business leader Les Wexner.
The investigation has drawn renewed attention following the Department of Justice’s release of documents earlier this year. Among the materials were emails attributed to Epstein that referenced Gates and alleged personal matters. Some of the claims contained in those communications have been disputed by Gates’s representatives, who have described them as false and characterized them as attempts by Epstein to damage his reputation.
Additional reporting has highlighted past interactions between Gates and Epstein, including communications suggesting Epstein sought to reestablish a relationship and secure financial backing for philanthropic initiatives. Gates has previously acknowledged meeting with Epstein but has said their association was limited and that he regretted those interactions.
In a March letter requesting his testimony, Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said the panel believes Gates may have information relevant to its inquiry, citing publicly reported details and documents reviewed by investigators.
A spokesperson for Gates said he intends to cooperate fully with the committee, stating that he “welcomes the opportunity” to answer questions and support the investigation. The spokesperson also reiterated that Gates has denied any involvement in or knowledge of Epstein’s criminal activities.
Melinda French Gates, weighed in as well after speaking publicly about the broader implications of the Epstein case. She has emphasized the need for accountability among those connected to Epstein and described the revelations as part of a wider societal reckoning over abuse and exploitation.
The House Oversight Committee is continuing to expand its inquiry, with additional interviews planned. Among those expected to appear are Howard Lutnick, former White House counsel Kathryn Ruemmler, and longtime political aide Doug Band.
As the investigation progresses, lawmakers are seeking to better understand the scope of Epstein’s network and the extent of his interactions with influential figures across business and politics. Gates’s upcoming testimony is likely to be a focal point in that effort, given his global prominence and previously acknowledged contact with Epstein.
