Gaetz Unmoved By McCarthy’s Flip-Flop On Impeachment

-

One of 's loudest GOP critics isn't satisfied even after the House speaker caved to his right flank's demand to initiate an impeachment probe against President Biden.

Speaking from the floor of the House Tuesday afternoon, Congressman threatened McCarthy's tenuous speakership during a fiery five minute speech.

Gaetz, an uncompromising supporter, accused McCarthy of being insufficiently loyal to and threatened to recruit Democrats to his cause.

Mediaite has more on Gaetz's reaction to McCarthy's announcement, which he's mocking as a “baby step”:

“On this very floor in January, the whole world witnessed a historic contest for House speaker, I rise today to serve notice. Mr. Speaker, you are out of compliance with the agreement that allowed you to assume this role,” Gaetz said to begin his speech.

“The path forward for the House of Representatives is to either bring you into immediate total compliance or remove you pursuant to a motion to vacate the chair,” Gaetz added, referring to a key concession he received from McCarthy – that a motion to vacate to the speaker can be initiated by just one member. [emphasis added]

“We have had no vote on term limits or on balanced budgets as the agreement demanded and required. There has been no full release of the January 6th tapes, as you promised. There has been insufficient accountability for the Biden family, and instead of cutting spending to raise the , you relied on budgetary gimmicks and rescissions so that you ultimately ended up serving as the valet to underwrite Biden's debt and advance his spending agenda,” Gaetz continued, adding:

Mr. Speaker, you boasted in January that we would use the power of the subpoena and the power of the purse. But here we are eight months later, and we haven't even sent the first subpoenae to . That's how you know that the rushed and, you know, somewhat rattled performance you just saw from the speaker isn't real.

Gaetz ended his speech by making clear he would move to vacate the speaker's chair if McCarthy did not meet all of his demands.

Several Republican House members oppose impeachment, citing insufficient evidence to pursue impeachment proceedings against the president. Senate Republicans are incredibly skeptical. Many doubt McCarthy has the votes to pass articles of impeachment and warn their House colleagues they would be quickly dismissed based on the findings thus far.

  1. Gaetz is a smart a– punk and has no idea that the Speaker doesn’t have much choice with the election coming up. If Biden were to loose the GOP would have to indict him like the Democrats did Trump – out of office which really is not a good move – it would not have the same effect as bringing him down while in office and charging him with All the charges possible. Gaetz needs to consult a good attorney about procedure. McCarthy is praying he has enough GOP votes to indict but with fools like Gaetz he now probably won’t have unless someone talks some sense into him.

      • Not in the least but Gaetz is what is the problem with the GOP – they don’t stand united – they wanted Biden impeached and now McCarthy takes the 1st legal steps towards it and they come unglued in front of the world – act like grade schoolers ready to go to fistacuffs cause they don’t get what they want. Meanwhile Dems stand united even behind the old buffoon and make the GOP look incapable of doing the job.

  2. I’ve been maintaining for quite some time, that except for a couple of handfuls or so of Republicans, we need to get rid of virtually the entire lot of them at the very next possible election opportunity.

Gaetz is in that “couple of handfuls” I refer to that would be uberly-beneficial to keep on board.

  3. Gaetz is a Democrat in descize . He wants to impeach but only in his way. You do not do this in a election cycle. I feel he is just trying to forward himself polotically.

  4. While Gaetz makes it sound so cut & dried it isn’t. Many GOP tied McCarthy’s hands and spoke against this b4. The problem with Gaetz & others is they don’t know how to stand United like the DNC to take the fight to the Dems that are tearing our Constitution & gov.’t. apart ! McCarthy has done a great job without help from many that should be on the same team. I’m not advocating they become puppets but when faced with Globalist that would turn our nation over to the U.N. they had better do a much better job of working together.

    • Excuse me he made a deal to keep the government going by giving in. They hold the purse strings so use that dang power. Shut the damn government down unless they get the spending cuts they are after & stop payment to Jack Smith. Grow a pair McCarthy. Jordan should have been house speaker or Hawley they both would go toe to toe with the Dems. The Dems made Trump’s life HELL even when they weren’t in charge now it’s time to return the favor. Every Republican should be behind Gates wanting these cuts. We are already drowning in debt well never pay back so don’t add too it. Stand the ground for once. Quit trying to be the nice guy. Truth be told nice guys don’t win they get trampled on.
