Republicans Focus on Real Issues During Conference Retreat

Unlike their Democrat counterparts, the Republicans actually left their issues conference with a list of priorities for a domestic agenda that puts America First. At a press conference held at the House GOP’s conference retreat last week, members put forth possible solutions to some of the biggest problems that Americans currently face as a result of the Biden administration’s disastrous policies. They focused on real issues such as gas prices, inflation, crime and border security – instead of the pro-Ukraine pandering we saw from the Democrats at their retreat earlier this month.

Now all that remains to be seen is whether or not Republicans will make an effort to put their plans into action and exactly how much resistance the Democrats will be willing to provide to make a point – all while further draining the wallets of the American people.

Senate’s Swing Votes: Who’s In and Who’s Out on KBJ

The usual suspects will most likely determine whether or not Biden’s nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson is confirmed to the Supreme Court.

Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) has confirmed his support for Jackson.

Jon Tester of Montana – a moderate Democrat who often faces tough reelection fights back home – has also declared his support for Judge Jackson.

No definite answer from Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema either way, but signs most likely point to an affirmative vote from her as well. The video below – released earlier this month – shows her speaking highly of the nominee.

However, a Newsweek article published last Friday said Sinema’s office couldn’t be reached for comment on the matter.

Republican Jeff Fortenberry of Nebraska is resigning before the end of this week after being found guilty of three felonies.

Democrat Filemon Vela of Texas (who is also the vice-chair of the DNC) is departing Congress for a gig at a lucrative law and lobbying firm.

Capitol Tours Are Back!

On a lighter note, I can’t believe that it’s been a whole five years since I spent the summer of 2017 interning on Capitol Hill. I see the Capitol tour as a staple of every intern’s experience and I am glad that Hill interns will once again get to give Capitol tours. Read more about why the practice is so special to me.
