House Conservatives Open To Filing A Motion To Remove McCarthy As Speaker: Report

-

Members of the are none too pleased with House Speaker 's deal.

At a press conference Tuesday morning, a group of congressmen led by Rep. , R-N.C., indicated a motion to vacate the chair is “absolutely” on the table if McCarthy pushes ahead with the agreement.

Bishop's remarks make him the first opponent of the deal to threaten to oust McCarthy publicly.

POLITICO further reports:

“Absolutely” Bishop told POLITICO in an interview on Tuesday, when asked about using the tool that can be used to force out a sitting speaker. “It is inescapable to me. It has to be done.”

The procedure Bishop is considering would essentially trigger a vote of no confidence against McCarthy — a tool that's been weaponized by the conservative House Freedom Caucus against the past two speakers in attempts to keep party leaders from leaning too much towards the center.

It would only take one House member to decide to trigger the vote, which would then require a simple majority to oust the speaker.

It's not clear yet if Bishop will go ahead with his threat: He noted he wants support from other colleagues before he takes such a move.

Bishop explicitly clarified that his actions would depend on what his colleagues decide to do.

Meanwhile, POLITICO noted that another Freedom Caucus member, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed they were open to removing McCarthy, too.

  1. This is nuts. What the hell. These congressmen and women have been sitting on their hands for 2 years doing nothing about the debt ceiling. All of the sudden they are all righteous. They should have been working on that issue at all times. Not just when they feel it gets attention. Of course, we have a deal, and it does not please them, too fricking bad. It works… get it done. MAYBE AFTER THIS VOTE WE CAN SEE CONGRESS WORKING TOGETHER TO LOWER THE CEILING AND CUT BACK ON ALL THE “PORK” THEY ARE GETTING. I’m sure everyone means well but we the public have seen enough, stop the utter bull mularkey.

    Just my opinion.

  2. Guess those radical republicans know that they are playing right into the hands of the democrats.

  3. If McCarthy is cast in the same mold as Mitch McConnell, then I say good riddance. Still, I fear yet another McConnell clone will be waiting in the wings to take his place. Perhaps there are dark princes of commerce and global domination really in charge who laugh at the Republi-Crat kabuki theater.
