Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan will not be holding a third ballot for speaker of the House today.
The announcement comes after a meeting with House leadership this morning where Jordan hinted that he supports backing Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) for interim speaker until January.
The Washington Post has more on Jordan's decision to pause his candidacy:
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) will not seek an additional speaker vote Thursday, and he will back a plan to give Rep. Patrick T. McHenry (R-N.C.), the temporary speaker, additional powers, according to multiple people who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the situation. After two rounds of votes, a group of Republicans had made clear that Jordan did not have enough support to win the speaker's gavel. With House functions at a standstill, lawmakers can now move forward on a proposal to expand McHenry's powers.
It's still being determined if Jordan will eventually drop out or use the additional time to whip the votes necessary to win the speaker's gavel.
Lawmakers are expected to proceed with a vote to give Rep. McHenry additional powers.
