Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings reveal that progressive Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) has spent nearly $75,000 this year on luxury travel, high-end accommodations, and private security—despite representing a working-class district in Dallas and publicly advocating for defunding law enforcement.
According to the filings, Crockett’s campaign dropped $25,748.87 on lavish hotels and limousine services in upscale destinations including Martha’s Vineyard, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, and Chicago. The expenditures include:
- $4,175.01 at the Ritz-Carlton
- $2,304.79 at The Luxury Collection
- $5,326.52 at the West Hollywood Edition
- $1,173.92 at the Times Square Edition
- Over $2,000 at the Cosmopolitan and Aria in Las Vegas
- $2,703.14 at the Edgartown Inn and $3,160.93 at The Coco, both in Martha’s Vineyard
Luxury transportation services were also part of the campaign’s tab. Crockett’s filings show $2,728 paid to Chicago-based Transportation 4 U, a limousine company that proudly posted a photo of the congresswoman on its Yelp page. Additional charges include $2,310 to DCA Car LLC and $1,254 to Bay Area Limousine.
In the same period, Crockett’s campaign disbursed nearly $50,000 on security-related expenses—an ironic expenditure given her long record of supporting the “Defund the Police” movement. In 2021, while serving in the Texas legislature, Crockett said the movement was about “finally being fiscally responsible when it comes to policing in this state.”
Now, as she reportedly considers a U.S. Senate run against Republican Sen. John Cornyn, Crockett’s campaign finances paint a different picture: one of a lawmaker more comfortable with red-carpet treatment than grassroots activism.
Speaking to Politico in October, Crockett said she was “seriously weighing” a Senate campaign and was already spending money on polling and data.
Crockett’s record has been marked by controversy. She drew condemnation for mocking Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who is paralyzed and uses a wheelchair, calling him “Governor Hot Wheels” during an LGBTQ event. After widespread backlash, Crockett claimed she wasn’t referencing his disability but rather his transportation of migrants to cities run by black mayors.
The congresswoman also made headlines for inflammatory remarks about Elon Musk and Sen. Ted Cruz, saying Musk should be “taken down” and Cruz “knocked over the head, like hard.”
More recently, she defended Virginia’s newly elected Democratic Attorney General Jay Jones, after leaked messages showed him fantasizing about murdering a Republican lawmaker. Crockett brushed off the controversy as a “distraction,” praising Democrats for sticking with him.
The emerging pattern is difficult to ignore: a self-styled “progressive fighter” who rails against privilege and inequality while indulging in the very luxuries she condemns in others. Her spending suggests not only a disconnect from her working-class district but a hypocrisy emblematic of a political class that often demands austerity from voters while enjoying excess themselves.
