Tennessee Rep. Andy Ogles, a Republican, has announced that the House Judiciary and Homeland Security committees will investigate Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell. The probes aim to determine whether O’Connell obstructed federal immigration enforcement or misused federal funds.
Ogles previously requested the investigations, alleging that the Democratic mayor directed city agencies to monitor or interfere with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in Nashville.
The controversy stems from a recent ICE operation in Tennessee’s capital city, conducted in coordination with the Tennessee Highway Patrol, that resulted in the arrest of 196 individuals, including 95 with criminal records.
In response, Connell issued an executive order requiring all city departments to report interactions with federal immigration authorities to his office. He also announced the creation of the “Belonging Fund,” intended to support immigrant families affected by enforcement actions.
While announcing that the House committees will investigate the mayor, Ogles argued that the measures amount to obstruction of federal law enforcement.
He also accused O’Connell of using his office to shield illegal immigrants and raised concerns about the potential misuse of federal funds tied to the city’s immigration-related initiatives.
“I will not back down. I will not relent. I will always stand with law enforcement,” Ogles said during a Memorial Day press conference. “I want my community, and I want my country back.”
With the support of the House Judiciary Committee, I will be formally requesting all documents and communications from the Mayor’s office related to:

O’Connell has defended his actions, saying the city’s approach prioritizes community safety and does not interfere with lawful enforcement.
He emphasized the importance of transparency and protecting families from unnecessary disruption.
As the investigations move forward, the dispute highlights ongoing tensions between local and federal authorities over immigration enforcement policies.

Good.
What doesn’t Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell.get, he has sworn to uphold the law, immigrants that are in this country illegally have broken the law. It is his responsibility to enforce the law.
No one can use government as a tool to promote their personal agenda. They must be held responsible to the fullest extent of the law. The far left has destroyed too much of this county. It’s time for America to return to it’s roots.
