In a recent appearance on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast, Don Lemon, the CNN anchor-turned-content creator fired from the network after sexist comments, made controversial remarks about black Americans who support President Donald Trump. Lemon stated that he doesn’t believe black individuals can be “rational” supporters of Trump under the “MAGA” movement. While acknowledging that black people can be Republicans, he specifically singled out those who align with Trump, claiming they are either deluding themselves or seeking attention.
Lemon’s comments were met with pushback from Maher, who found the generalization of Black Trump supporters “insulting.” In response, Lemon doubled down, stating that when he sees Black Trump supporters, particularly those who “carry Trump’s water,” it’s often for fame or media attention, noting that these individuals get booked on television simply because of their rarity.
Lemon’s comments fail to recognize that for these individuals, their support for Trump often comes with a great deal of ridicule and alienation from their own communities, making it a decision that isn’t made lightly or without consequence.
Don Lemon’s comments about black Trump supporters being motivated by a desire for media attention are glaringly out of touch with reality, especially considering the actual experiences of most Black people who voted for Donald Trump. While Lemon suggests that black MAGA supporters are elevated to media stardom for their political views, the truth is that the vast majority of black Trump voters remain largely unheard and unrepresented in mainstream media. The reality is that only a tiny fraction of these individuals have been given prominent television appearances or platforms to share their perspectives. For every black Trump supporter who makes it to the spotlight, there are millions of others whose voices remain marginalized or ignored in the broader political conversation.
Instead of insulting black Trump supporters, Don Lemon would be better off reflecting on how his own party failed so miserably in their selection process for the 2024 presidential candidate. Many black voters, like others, are frustrated with the current political climate, and for some, Trump represents an alternative to a party that has increasingly alienated them. Kamala Harris was consistently criticized for what some view as inauthentic attempts to connect with black voters—such as sharing exaggerated stories about preparing collard greens in a bathtub, putting on a southern accent and claiming she celebrated Kwanzaa growing up.
These missteps, along with the broader dissatisfaction with the Democratic establishment, highlight the need for introspection within the party. Rather than dismissing black Trump supporters as irrational or attention starved, Lemon should be asking why his party is hemorrhaging support from a demographic that has voted reliably for them for decades.
This scolding, dismissive, and condescending attitude has unfortunately become a hallmark of the Democratic Party, particularly when it comes to dealing with voters the Party believes it is owed allegiance from. By belittling and patronizing those who deviate from the party line—whether it’s black Trump supporters, working-class voters, or women—the party continues to alienate large swaths of the electorate.
Instead of engaging in meaningful dialogue or trying to understand the concerns of diverse groups, many Democratic leaders have chosen to mock, lecture, or ignore their critics. If the party ever hopes to regain trust and win future elections, they need to abandon this divisive rhetoric and embrace humility. Only then can they rebuild the bridges they’ve burned and create a political environment that appeals to a broader spectrum of Americans.

This is all pretty funny coming from the king of Lemon’s. He’s failed at everything he’s tried. The only time he’s heard from is to complain or disparage somebody. Jeez, speaking of calling the kettle black. The only reason he says stuff is to draw attention to himself for some kind of notoriety. He’s a multi time loser that needs to do all of us a favor, and just go away permanently.
I agree with you Rick.
And you know that HOW – because your “FEMININE” side tells you so since your Brain failed to engage long ago and got your butt fired?
Good for you, that you have used that idle time to learn the new skill of guessing your fellowmen’s state of mind.
How pompous and inane can you become before you realize that you are not fit to judge
You hit the nail on the head Gloria. Thanks.
Really? What does he have to say about here being no rational left wing nuts?
You got that right Paul. Thanks.
There is no such as a rational person that believes race has anything to do with being rational and supporting anyone.
