Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego is launching an effort to challenge a new Trump Administration immigration policy that could require many green card applicants to leave the United States and complete the process abroad.

According to a report from The Hill, Gallego is not only seeking to overturn the policy itself but is also pursuing a procedural strategy that could make it easier for Congress to reverse the change.

The dispute revolves around a recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policy affecting how certain immigrants obtain lawful permanent residency.

FRIDAY PDB – Joe Biden is ‘too old and frail’ to be President, say Americans in exclusive poll. The poll revealed most Americans view Biden as too frail to continue with his presidency, with the country heading in the wrong direction under his administration.

But it’s not just the president.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein told to ‘just say aye’ in awkward Senate committee moment. Feinstein, 90, began delivering a speech in support of a bill during a vote Thursday, instead of the expected response of “aye” or “nay.”

Mitch McConnell Suffers an Episode at the Capitol, Freezing Midsentence. The 81-year-old Senate Republican leader, who had a serious fall earlier this year, was temporarily unable to speak during a news conference, raising questions about his health and future. UPSHOT – ELDERLY, FRAIL SENATORS SHOULD RETIRE – AND SO SHOULD ELDERLY, FRAIL PRESIDENTS. OR, AT MINIMUM, TAKE COGNITIVE EXAMS.

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – Here’s a roundup of today’s other top defense stories from conservative national security expert PAUL CRESPO.

Not the President’s Daily Brief, but almost as good – PAUL’S DAILY BRIEFING – the PDB:

PENTAGON WOKE WATCH

THE BATTLE IS ON – VA funding plan passes House with more ‘controversial’ provisions. House GOP lawmakers doubled down on anti-diversity measures despite a White House veto threat.

NO COMPARISON – Dangerous: Biden doubles down on Tuberville’s military holds. The president invoked the names of two potentially historic nominees during a speech at the Truman Civil Rights Symposium.

WHITE HOUSE VISIT

NOT ‘FAR-RIGHT,’ JUST RIGHT – Biden thanks far-right Italian Premier for her strong support of Ukraine. Joe Biden on Thursday thanked Giorgia Meloni for Italy’s steady backing of Ukraine, offering a warm welcome to the White House to a leader that his administration saw with some trepidation when she rose to power last year as the head of Italy’s first ‘far-right’-led government since World War II.

NATIONAL SECURITY

Trump charged with seeking to delete security footage in documents case. Carlos De Oliveira allegedly helped Walt Nauta move boxes around Mar-a-Lago and allegedly had conversations with others about security camera footage there.

CHINA THREAT

Defense Secretary says the US stands with countries against China’s ‘bullying behavior.’ Lloyd Austin’s comments came as he launched bilateral talks in Australia aimed at countering Beijing’s growing influence in the Indo-Pacific region.

China to conduct military training in disputed part of South China Sea. The training, from July 29 to Aug. 2, will cover a large area including the Paracel Islands and Macclesfield Bank, its Maritime Safety Administration said on Friday.

Japan affirms plans for deeper regional ties to counter China. In a defense white paper, Tokyo presents its case for engagement with allies to respond to threats posed by China and by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Senators rally to boost defense spending, with $1 billion for Taiwan. A bipartisan group of senators seeks to boost defense spending beyond the debt ceiling cap amid resistance from House Republicans.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

US troops in Ukraine can now earn hazard pay. The Pentagon says a small number of U.S. troops are stationed at the American embassy in Kyiv but are not conducting combat operations in the country.

Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, day 520. The Ukrainian army recaptured the village of Staromaiorske in the southwest from Russian forces, Deputy Defense Minister said on Telegram.

Ukraine’s stepped-up assault grinds forward, but its scale is unclear. Kyiv has intensified its counteroffensive but has kept things murky on the size of the assault, the casualties and what forces it still has in reserve.

On southern front, Ukrainian forces aim to smash through Russian defenses. Ukrainian troops made slow but steady gains Thursday in their ongoing counteroffensive to drive a wedge through the Russian-occupied south.

With Wagner in Belarus, tension grows on northern Ukraine border. Fears have grown along Ukraine’s northern border since Yevgeniy Prigozhin’s mercenaries relocated to Belarus after their abortive mutiny in Russia.

NORTH KOREA THREAT

The Pentagon says Army Pvt. Travis King fled to North Korea after finishing a South Korean jail sentence. IDIOT.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

Door is open for New Zealand to join AUKUS, Blinken says. “We’ve long worked together on the most important national security issues, and so as we further develop AUKUS, as I said, the door is open to engagement.”

USS Bataan, USS Carter Hall in Mediterranean on way to Middle East. They are in the Mediterranean Sea, having crossed through the Strait of Gibraltar Wednesday.

Additional countries consider security links with US National Guard. Switzerland, Finland and Sweden are considering joining the Guard’s security partnership program.

Air Force F-35s sent to Middle East will help with fight in Syria, patrols of key strait. A squadron Lightning IIs, some of the Air Force’s most advanced fighters, has arrived in the Middle East, where the planes will join patrols that aim to deter Iran from seizing oil tankers.

US State Department orders departure of non-emergency personnel from Haiti. The US State Department on Thursday ordered the departure of non-emergency personnel from Haiti as the security situation in the country deteriorates.

US Coast Guard seeks bigger role to search, board vessels in Pacific. It is in talks with Pacific Island countries to expand its maritime law enforcement role by allowing U.S. officers to board and search vessels suspected of illegal activity within their economic zones. BIDEN’S AFGHAN DISASTER

Afghanistan shows the US needs a doctrine not just for fighting wars, but also leaving them. And other lessons from Thursday’s hearing on the 2021 evacuation (aka chaotic retreat).

THAT’S ON BIDEN – Deadly Afghanistan bombing at Kabul airport ‘would not have occurred at Bagram.’ The suicide attack in August 2021 that killed dozens, including 13 American troops, would not have happened if the U.S. conducted its hasty withdrawal from the larger, more secure, Bagram airfield, Army Command Sgt. Maj. Jacob Smith told House lawmakers. (RELATED: US Soldier Says Snipers Could’ve Taken Out Kabul Airport Suicide Bomber – But Weren’t Allowed To)

US MILITARY

After two-year overhaul, Navy confirms USS Boxer can’t get underway. The USS Boxer, one of the Navy’s amphibious warships, is struggling to get to sea despite recently a $200 million refitting that was supposed to ready the ship for the service’s newest F-35B fighter.

New military justice rules set to go into effect with Biden order. The president will codify reforms establishing independent prosecutors for serious military crimes.

Tanker program adds 9 ships to fuel US military in a crisis. Three companies will each provide three ships.

Mandatory mental exams alone over age 70+

      Paul

      Why 70?
I don’t think Biden could have ever passed a cognitive test at any age.

      Paul

Yeah, but not sure if Biden could have passed a mental exam even before he reached age 70!

      mark

not just elderly and frail but beginning to believe every candidate and politician. PA voters could not see at the time fetterman was not physically or mentally capable.

    Tim Toroian

The Feinstein incident yesterday was INSANE. Her vote shouldn’t count. Trump would ace another exam.

    E. J. Warner

I agree that anyone over 70 should have to take a yearly cognitive exam. You need only look at, say, Warren Buffet’s buddy Charlie Munger who at age 99 could probably ace any type of mental exam!
