Car theft continues to be a problem in Florida as well as the rest of the nation, with one man using an ill-gotten vehicle to try gaining an uninvited audience with Donald Trump. That’s right, with heavy Secret Service presence at Mar-a-Lago, this guy just pulled up in a stolen ride and asked to speak with the president-elect.
The man, a 52-year-old from Sarasota, was of course arrested once it was discovered the car he was driving was reported as stolen, reports Palm Beach Daily News. He was also cited for operating a motor vehicle without a valid license.
What the man was driving makes this incident even more interesting. He apparently was behind the wheel of a Hyundai Kona. Those little crossovers are something we almost forget exist, yet car thieves sure don’t.
After all, Hyundais and Kias both are popular targets for people with sticky fingers, thanks in part to their being rather easy to boost. It also doesn’t hurt that they’re everywhere, so there’s always a ready supply for anyone with the know-how.
However, it seems this man acquired the Hyundai through an even simpler method: a female friend of his rented it and he went for a ride to the bank to get secured funds to buy a new car. She went inside and he waited in the Hyundai. But when she returned, the rental vehicle was just gone.
Why the man decided he had to speak Trump, not to mention why he thought he could just drive up to the president-elect’s home and ask for an audience, isn’t clear. The easy explanation would be some mental health issue, but there’s zero mention of motive in the local news article, so we’re just left to guess.
Maybe the guy wanted to talk to Trump about the car theft epidemic in the country? At this point, nothing would surprise us.
