The announced retirement of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director and the Chief Medical Advisor to the President Dr. Anthony Fauci will not stop Republican congressional leaders from investigating his activities leading up to and during the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Fauci's retirement will be effective in December, just weeks before Congress convenes for a new session, possibly led by a Republican majority.
New evidence suggests not only may the COVID-19 virus have escaped from a Chinese laboratory, but Fauci's agency conducted and funded viral research at that lab and concealed its connections from lawmakers and the public.
“Retirement can't shield Dr. Fauci from congressional oversight. Emails obtained by Oversight Committee Republicans reveal what Dr. Fauci said publicly about COVID origins was very different than what was said privately,” said House Oversight Committee Ranking Member James Comer (R-Ky.) in a statement responding to Fauci's retirement announcement.
“Dr. Fauci was warned by top scientists early on that the virus looked genetically manipulated and likely leaked from the Wuhan lab. Despite these facts, Dr. Fauci dismissed these ideas in public as conspiracy theories,” said Comer.
We need to know if Dr. Fauci concealed anything from government officials in order to shield the NIH's cozy relationship with EcoHealth Alliance, a grantee that awarded taxpayer funds to the Wuhan lab to conduct dangerous research on bat coronaviruses. The American people deserve transparency and accountability about how government officials used their taxpayer dollars, and Oversight Committee Republicans will deliver,” said Comer.
Fauci has already been warned to preserve documents, Comer revealed to Fox News.
“We have a lot of questions for Dr. Fauci,” Comer tells Fox News' Laura Ingraham.
“We've already told Dr. Fauci to preserve all of his documents and all of his emails. One thing the House Oversight Committee has already unearthed were the initial emails back in January and February of 2020 when his earliest advisors said by looking at this gene sequence, it appears that this was man-made, so it had to come from the Wuhan Lab,” said Comer.
“Dr. Fauci never told the public that there were advisors to him that said this originated in the Wuhan Lab,” Comer added.
“On January 11th, 2022, Ranking Member Comer and Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) called for a transcribed interview with Dr. Fauci after new information revealed he may have concealed information from government officials about the possibility of COVID-19 originating from the Wuhan Lab and the virus appearing to be genetically manipulated,” Oversight Committee Republicans report.
