Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego is launching an effort to challenge a new Trump Administration immigration policy that could require many green card applicants to leave the United States and complete the process abroad.

According to a report from The Hill, Gallego is not only seeking to overturn the policy itself but is also pursuing a procedural strategy that could make it easier for Congress to reverse the change.

The dispute revolves around a recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policy affecting how certain immigrants obtain lawful permanent residency.

PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEF (PDB)Gilded capability: Overinvestment and the survivability paradox. History provides ample evidence that overinvestment in a capability can accelerate military decline by diverting scarce resources to protect investments at the expense of system regeneration and resilience against attrition.

U.S. industrial realities create a strong temptation to compensate for numerical deficiencies by concentrating capabilities into fewer, over-specialized, and capital-intensive platforms, such as advanced aircraft and large warships.

This logic produces a vicious cycle: scarcity drives concentration, concentration incentivizes survivability, survivability increases costs, and rising costs further constrain force size.

The result is a force optimized for rapid, decisive engagements, but increasingly brittle and prone to failure in protracted conflict when attrition rates and survivability assumptions diverge from reality.

Future force design across the services should balance quality and quantity to ensure sufficient mass. When the required mass is unachievable, force design should avoid the survivability paradox and explicitly accept the gap, then deploy resources elsewhere.

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – Here’s a roundup of today’s other top defense news from conservative national security expert PAUL CRESPO.

THE PDB – Not the President’s Daily Briefing, but almost as good – PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEF:

NATIONAL SECURITY

President Trump is increasingly turning to military leaders for some of his toughest diplomatic assignments, sending top brass to help negotiate the end of the Russia-Ukraine war, a potential new nuclear deal with Iran, and forge closer ties with countries in the Western Hemisphere.

Federal judge temporarily blocks Pentagon from punishing Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly, a retired Navy officer who receives a full pension and benefits, over “seditious” unlawful orders video directed at active-duty troops.

Men lie, strategies lie — numbers don’t. Measuring frequency of words and themes in a document can offer insights, reveal underlying messages, and even illuminate what’s on the minds of its writers. The 2026 National Defense Strategy is meant to help align ends, ways, and means, and to signal goals and values. But to find the truth, sometimes you just have to count.

HOMELAND DEFENSE

Pentagon allowed Customs and Border Protection to use an anti-drone laser, leading the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to suddenly close airspace over El Paso, Texas.

DEFENSE POLITICS

Trump’s EPA revokes “scientific” finding that underpinned U.S. fight against climate change. The Obama-era “endangerment finding,” which posits that greenhouse gases threaten public health, was seen as more political than scientific and gross overreach by a rogue agency.

“Everything costs what it costs”: Navy, Marine, and Coast Guard chiefs call for historic funding for their respective services while outlining goals they plan to achieve with current and future infusions of cash.

The fiscal 2027 defense budget could double the number of ships the Navy is set to procure under the fiscal 2026 defense budget.

Top Navy officer: “Deliver what we ask for on time.” “I need my stuff on time.” That’s the terse message two maritime service chiefs are sending to industry.

Top senior enlisted leaders for the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Space Force told lawmakers that access to health care is the most substantive complaint they’re hearing lately from their troops.

Top enlisted leaders from each service told lawmakers they support women serving in any role in the military, including combat arms, IF they meet established standards.

Will these four defense innovation reforms improve the industry’s lot? When everyone is accountable, who is actually responsible?

US POWER OVERSEAS

Two Navy ships deployed as part of the Trump administration’s massive military buildup in the Caribbean Sea collided during at-sea resupply, leaving two troops with minor injuries.

Syrian government forces have taken control of al-Tanf base in the east of the country that was run for years by U.S. troops as part of the war against the Islamic State terror group.

CHINA THREAT

CIA video appeals to potential spies in China’s military. The agency is seeking Chinese officials who are frustrated with corruption in the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

Japan’s seizure of a Chinese vessel and arrest of the captain could heighten tensions. Japan’s Fisheries Agency says a Chinese captain was arrested for allegedly defying orders to stop for inspection at sea.

Beyond China’s ostentatious display of its J-35A fighter jet at Singapore Airshow was a lower-profile piece of equipment, a new Wing-Loong X combat drone, which experts say is far more likely to find international success.

RUSSIA THREAT/UKRAINE WAR

U.S.-NATO annual Dynamic Front exercise rehearses taking out 1,500 targets a day to “overwhelm” an enemy. U.S. Army and its NATO allies in Europe are honing their ability to fight back against an incursion by throwing enough artillery at an enemy to stop them in their tracks for good.

Why forcing Ukraine into an election could misfire for Trump.

EUROPEAN DEFENSE BUILDUP

Hegseth skips NATO meeting; Pentagon No. 3 policy chief Elbridge Colby called for NATO to be based on “partnership rather than dependency” ahead of talks with military alliance’s defense ministers in Brussels.

NORTH KOREA THREAT

North Korea warned of “terrible response” if more drones cross its border from the South, escalating tensions despite Seoul’s efforts to improve ties. Pyongyang said it shot down a surveillance drone last month.

US MILITARY

The Air Force has now denied taking delivery of any F-35A Joint Strike Fighters from the latest Lot 17 production batch without radars installed. This comes a day after a recent unconfirmed report that the U.S. military has been receiving radar-less F-35s since last June due to issues tied to the new AN/APG-85 radar.

VA psychologists are burning out. Number of veterans seeking mental health treatment continues to rise, but the number of psychologists at VA dropped last year for the first time in a decade.

Yeah well the courts always using their double standards clause for the democrats, such as Kelly, which has destroyed equal justice under the written rule of law! No matter what crimes are committed! Makes me wonder what they are getting for destroying justice in America 🇺🇸!
