Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego is launching an effort to challenge a new Trump Administration immigration policy that could require many green card applicants to leave the United States and complete the process abroad.

According to a report from The Hill, Gallego is not only seeking to overturn the policy itself but is also pursuing a procedural strategy that could make it easier for Congress to reverse the change.

The dispute revolves around a recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policy affecting how certain immigrants obtain lawful permanent residency.

PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEF (PDB) – Israel launches expanded Gaza City operation, tells residents to leave. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz declared that “Gaza is burning” as the operation began. Heavy bombardment battered the city overnight and into the morning.

The military wouldn’t offer a timeline for the offensive, which it says aims to “destroy Hamas’ military infrastructure,” but Israeli media suggested it could take months.

Israel estimates there are 2,000 to 3,000 Hamas terrorists left in Gaza City, as well as tunnels used by the group. Hamas’ military capabilities have been vastly diminished over nearly two years of war.

The operation into the largest Palestinian city further escalates the ongoing conflict that has roiled the Middle East and likely pushes any ceasefire farther out of reach.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has landed in Qatar, the only country he says can mediate an end to Israel’s war on Gaza, shortly after warning that just a “short window” remains to secure a ceasefire.

This, as a U.N. commission of inquiry joins rising chorus on the left that accuses Israel of ‘genocide’ in Gaza. Israel and the U.S. deny these claims, saying they are outrageous, noting that only tens of thousands of people, including thousands of Hamas terrorists, have been killed in Gaza out of a population of over 2 million.

Most of the deaths have been due to heavy Hamas resistance in heavily populated urban areas.

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – Here’s a roundup of today’s other top defense stories ending the week from conservative national security expert PAUL CRESPO.

Not the President’s Daily Brief, but almost as good – PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEFING – the PDB:

NATIONAL SECURITY

Air Force has started modifying a Boeing 747 donated by Qatar for “executive airlift.” Trump has said he wants to fly the jet as “Air Force One” since new presidential transports, held up by delays, won’t be ready until after his term is over.

HOMELAND SECURITY

Trump deploys National Guard to Memphis in ‘replica’ of D.C. crime and immigration enforcement crackdown.

DEFENSE POLITICS

A 75-year-old commission advocating for women in the armed services will be revived as part of a phased restoration of 39 Pentagon advisory groups put on pause earlier this year.

Defense Secretary Hegseth’s pursuit of a clean-shaven military took its latest step when the Pentagon announced that troops who require medical shaving waivers for longer than a year will face involuntary separation.

Army announced updates to its stricter grooming regulations, changing standards for soldiers’ hairstyles, jewelry, nail length and makeup use.

US POWER OVERSEAS

President Trump says the U.S. military again targeted a boat allegedly carrying drugs from Venezuela, killing three aboard.

F-35B stealth fighters that landed in Puerto Rico joined a growing U.S. military presence at the former Naval Station Roosevelt Roads. Though the Navy disposed of this sprawling facility more than two decades ago, it is now a major staging area for the Trump administration’s battle against narco traffickers and Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro.

Army revealed its mid-range missile system, Typhon, at one of its bases in Japan for the first time as the two allies stepped up their deterrence against China.

These are the approximate positions of the U.S. Navy’s deployed carrier strike groups and amphibious ready groups throughout the world as of September 15, 2025.

CHINA THREAT

Philippines rejected and pushed back against China’s plans to create a ‘national nature reserve’ at a disputed South China Sea maritime feature, a move officials say could increase the People’s Liberation Army’s foothold in the area.

Australia will spend $7.9 billion (USD) towards a new defense precinct that will include naval shipyards and AUKUS-related programs in the west of the country.

RUSSIA THREAT

Ukrainian leaders are concerned about the U.S.’ wavering support and have urged local manufacturers to boost self-sufficiency as a hedge, though air defense remains a complex bottleneck.

Zelenskyy calls for an ambitious European air defense system as Russian rocket strike wounds 13 in the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia.

Authorities in Poland have said that two Belarusian citizens were detained and a drone was “neutralized” after it was flown over government buildings and the presidential residence in the capital city, Warsaw.

What if Russia invades the Baltic? A tabletop game offers answers. As NATO prepares for a potential Russian invasion of the Baltic region, there are many questions. In an era of drones, hypersonic missiles and kill chains, how might combat go amid the fields, forests and islands of the area?

Russia is running an extensive network of more than 200 camps to re-educate, Russify and militarize Ukrainian children.

British Royal Air Force P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft was noted today flying in Polish airspace along the border with Russia and Belarus, apparently highlighting a significant, if overlooked, overland surveillance mission for the type.

NORTH KOREA THREAT

A summit between Trump and Kim Jong Un: No upside for the U.S. Trump says he wants a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. “I’d like to meet him this year.”

SPACE THREATS

Pentagon has proposed an unusual plan to develop boost-phase space-based interceptors (SBIs) that would require firms to build and launch prototypes to compete for relatively small prize awards — in the hopes that winning the trials will lead to big production contracts post-2028.

York Space Systems’ recent delivery of 21 satellites for the U.S. military marks the company’s largest batch to date, as it scales up production for constellation-level programs.

EUROPEAN DEFENSE BUILDUP

Tested by Russia’s “multi-dimensional” threat, Sweden said it will increase defense spending by $2.9 billion in 2026, raising its defense spending to 2.8 percent of GDP.

UK to field swarm of AI drones within five years. Uncrewed systems will soon become a defining feature of the UK’s conventional forces, confirming that drones and unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) will be fielded in high numbers over the next five years.

Britain’s Tekever will establish the UK’s largest drone factory in Swindon, costing $545million and bringing 1,000 highly skilled jobs and positioning the town as a hub for sovereign drone manufacturing.

Drone interceptors are emerging as the newest munition that European manufacturers say could become a relatively inexpensive way of countering swarms of attack drones.

Poland’s state-run defense group PGZ has chosen the U.K.’s BAE Systems as its technology partner for the planned boost in domestic ammunition production.

No ‘small boy’ thinking: Germany must not develop an inferiority complex with the U.S. if it is to help drive through an urgent European-wide rearmament program and become a “reliable partner” to Washington, claims the head of Germany’s largest defense contractor, Rheinmetall.
