Liberal State Struggles With Easing COVID Restrictions

-

How nutty is “The People's Republic of ”?

Over two weeks ago the completely incompetent officially ended the COVID pandemic. But that's not stopping crazy commonwealth officials from keeping bad COVID policies.

This week our state senate passed a budget amendment to continue the COVID eviction moratorium. That's right; renters can still get out of paying their rent even though the pandemic shutdowns are long gone!

The program requires eviction cases based on nonpayment of rent to be stopped if a tenant has applied for rental assistance from the state. That's quite the loophole for the tenant and a big burden for the landlord who has to pay the mortgage payment each month!

According to State House News Service, “Courts would be required to notify the state of any suspended eviction cases so officials could expedite a pending aid application, and for a tenant to get the case paused, their application for aid would need to be “made in good faith.”

The state would “expedite” an application??? There is no expediting in government. How long is the landlord supposed to carry the deadbeats? At a minimum, it is going to be six months, because it already takes well over three months to evict a nonpaying tenant.

With the end of the pandemic, what's the justification for stiffing the landlord now?  Everywhere you look there are signs saying “help needed.” Our transport authority is hiring 1,000 new people and they get a signing bonus of $7,500. So why are these tenants not having to pay? The pandemic is O-V-E-R.

We are supposed to believe that the loophole would not be abused because the application must be “made in good faith.” Really? Come on, man! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that every tenant who is facing eviction for not paying is going to apply to get more free months of rent. Our state laws already greatly favor renters over landlords. That's why investors are encouraged to go to other states to buy rental properties. With this COVID law becoming permanent, no one will be investing in the commonwealth or should I say “COVIDwealth.” And our idiots at the state house are constantly perplexed as to why housing is so expensive. No one wants to invest which means less units and higher prices.

There is another kicker for landlords in the passed language. If the rental aid is eventually paid to the landlord, tenants can petition to seal the court record. That means landlords will not know who the deadbeats are and who is playing the system. These deadbeat tenants can leave a trail of rental wreckage.

The amount of stupidity by elected officials in “COVIDwealth” also known as “Taxachusetts” never ceases to amaze me. I bet a majority of them still wear a mask in the car.

    • You’re absolutely right about losing tourism dollars. We plan to explore New England in the early Fall, but will not be stopping in Massachusettes or any other state that still has Covid restrictions in place.

  1. I wonder what would happen if the landlords can’t afford to pay property taxes because they have no rental income?

Maybe the government can confiscate their properties and sell them to the deadbeat renters who can’t afford to buy them OR pay taxes either. That would undoubtedly make the most sense to the government.

  2. I am SO glad my ancestors had both the wisdom and the courage to leave old Massachsetts in the early 1700’s. I would not want my children to live there today in liberal la-la loony-land where Marxist totalitarians are gaining ground daily.
