Liberty Rising Brief: Expect More Restrictions if COVID-19 Cases Surge

-

“Where liberty is, there is my country.” – Benjamin Franklin

THE WEEK AHEAD:

Good Monday morning. Today, we're starting with the latest Covid-19 predictions as experts announced a new variant: BA.2.

The president's chief medical adviser and NIH director Anthony Fauci emerged from his month-long hiding just as swiftly as the new variant appeared. According to Fauci, BA.2 is over 50% more transmissible than omicron, although it is not more severe.

Looking back to the initial omicron theatrics, we can recall institutions including schools and the CDC reinstating policies. If a surge in BA.2 cases is reported, a similar drama may ensue.

Activists and health experts alike are already calling for the reinstatement of policies, including mask mandates.

The CDC reported over 31,000 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, including 958 deaths.

Meanwhile, the Russia-Ukraine War is continuing to fester throughout Eastern Europe and the international economy. Oil prices have sky-rocketed, dipped, and rose again amid a volatile market.

According to CNBC,

Crude futures were up more than 3% on Monday morning during Asia trading — international benchmark Brent crude was at  $111.46, and U.S. futures at $108.25.

The economy and supply concerns led the International Energy Agency (IEA) to call for reduced energy usage under “emergency measures.”

Meanwhile, Democrats are considering another round of stimulus checks. According to some lawmakers, more money will kill two birds with one stone: offset inflation and quiet the American people.

Of course, more money won't solve inflation and probably won't ease the worries of the American people. Nonetheless, be prepared for more money, along with higher gas on oil companies and the reversal of federal oil leases.

As reported by the Daily Wire,

The White House is holding off on the idea of sending ‘gas cards' — pre-paid debit cards loaded with taxpayers' money that the government would send to certain Americans to use toward gasoline — after pushback from Democrats who worried the idea would never work in providing economic relief in the face of high fuel prices.

One More Thing:

Keep Justice Clarence Thomas in your prayers this week. The 73-year-old was hospitalized amid an unnamed infection on Sunday.

He is currently resting in Washington DC's Sibley Memorial Hospital.

Last Laugh:

President Biden was spotted biking on the beach while Fauci announced a new Covid-19 variant, oil prices soared, and Democrats considered inflating America's inflation.

As Fox News reported,

President Biden was photographed biking at Gordons Pond State Park in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, on Sunday as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned of a potential ‘third world war.'
