Mass Firings And Cuts At NSA And USAID Help China

PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEF (PDB) – Do some of Trump’s cuts go too far? Some might. And they could help China and endanger U.S. national security.

The former NSA cyber unit chief warned lawmakers that mass firings of probationary federal employees would have ‘devastating impact’ on the country’s cybersecurity posture, especially with countering malicious cyber activity from China.

Former USAID China policy lead says agency shutdown could cede Pacific island nations to China and weakens America’s national security.

None of this is good for America. Trump and Musk should rethink some of these cuts.

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – Here’s a roundup of today’s other top defense stories ending the week from conservative national security expert PAUL CRESPO.

Not the President’s Daily Brief, but almost as good – PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEFING – the PDB:

NATIONAL SECURITY

Top leaders for Air Force, Space Force leaning into Defense Secretary’s rhetoric. Air Force chief of staff has made it clear: The troops that he oversees will do whatever President Trump wants them to, and they’ll be ready for it.

Why intelligence agencies think they can finally build a common intel picture for warfighters – a single data stream providing the information that commanders need to make battlefield decisions.

HOMELAND DEFENSE

The ‘Golden Dome’ missile shield initiative launched by Trump to protect the US homeland from missiles and drones will require a whole-of-government effort comparable to the Manhattan Project, according to a Space Force general.

HOMELAND SECURITY

The Pentagon IG has scrapped plans to investigate the military’s training for identifying and countering ‘extremism’ in the ranks (which has been a cover for targeting conservatives and Trump supporters) – saying the project does not align with the president’s orders.

An Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) general suggests new OA-1K Skyraider II prop plane—designed for armed intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance that can also conduct precision airstrikes — could be used along the border with Mexico.

The general who leads Transportation Command said that he expects the military to continue to deport illegal migrants using military aircraft though such flights have been paused for the past two days.

POLITICS

Trump boasts broad military changes, calls for control of Greenland in address to Congress.

Trump revealed that the suspected senior planner in the suicide bombing at the Kabul airport’s Abbey Gate that killed 13 American service members during Biden’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan has been taken into custody.

The VA is planning a reorganization that includes cutting over 80,000 jobs from the sprawling agency.

Marine veteran Stephen Watson served for 22 years and receives care through the VA for a traumatic brain injury. He supports Trump and Musk’s cost-cutting efforts — even if they affect the VA.

US POWER OVERSEAS

In 15 months, the Navy fired more air defense missiles since combat operations in the Red Sea began in October 2023 than it did in the last 30 years since Operation Desert Storm in the 1990s.

Air Force officials remain focused on the ability to disperse forces to far-flung operating locations as the primary means of reducing vulnerability to enemy attacks in the Pacific, as opposed to doing more to physically harden existing bases.

The revelation that the Air Force has designated its first uncrewed fighters set the stage for the makers of the two aircraft to talk about the logistics of deploying them to dispersed locations.

CHINA THREAT

The Philippines and its security allies would counter any attempt by China to impose an air defense zone or restrict freedom of flights over the South China Sea, the Filipino defense chief warns, following confrontations between Chinese aircraft and those of Australia and the U.S.

Below-the-threshold deterrence, Philippine style. In the middle of the night, a U.S. news crew onboard the Cape Engaño woke to alarms. Philippine sailors directed the media team to put on life jackets while the crew prepared to defend themselves with clubs against a potential Chinese boarding.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

The US has paused its intelligence sharing with Ukraine, but Trump officials said that positive talks between Washington and Kyiv mean it may only be a short suspension.

Even a brief pause in the flow of US arms and intel ‘greatly weakens’ Ukraine’s defense by affecting the country’s planning and operations, says Ukrainian military official.

EU leaders hold emergency talks on Thursday to discuss ways to quickly increase their military budgets after Trump signaled that Europe must take care of its own security.

French President Emmanuel Macron has said Russian aggression “knows no borders” and is a direct threat to Europe as EU leaders hold emergency talks in Brussels.

NATO is evolving its defense strategy and military posture based on lessons learned from the Ukraine war.

GOOD! – TRUMP EFFECT – Compulsory military service should be reintroduced this year in Germany, a leading official of the party that won recent federal elections said this week.

Germany’s likely next government seeks higher defense spending, saying they will seek to loosen the nation’s rules on running up debt to allow for higher defense spending.

IRAN THREAT/ISRAEL WARS

Team Trump has rejected the Gaza reconstruction plan endorsed by Arab leaders, saying the president stands by his own vision which includes expelling the territory’s Palestinian residents and transforming it into a “riviera” owned by the U.S.

Hamas brushes off Trump’s threat and says it will only free hostages in return for a lasting truce.

New Israeli military chief assumes command as Gaza ceasefire standoff increases risk of a resumption of fighting without an agreement to bring home the rest of the hostages still held by Hamas.

Israel’s Shin Bet says October 7 attack could have been prevented. The domestic security agency said it “failed in its mission” to prevent the Hamas terror attack by ignoring repeated warning signs.

SPACE THREAT

For several years, the Space Force has had a secretive, orbital tool that can gather information on China’s network of sensors that monitor US satellites.

Space Force’s vice chief hopes his service gets upgrades with some of the $50 billion per year that Pentagon leaders want to shift around upcoming budgets.

Space Force to stand up Guardian recruiting squadron to create a new mindset as the service seeks to take greater ownership of its force from day one.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

THIS IS A DRILL – British ships under ‘missile and torpedo attack’ in Norway. The Royal Navy and the Royal Norwegian Navy have launched Exercise Tamber Shield 25, an advanced training operation in Norway’s fjords.

‘Drill, baby, drill’: Trump’s renewed push for aggressive oil drilling is shaking up global energy markets, with falling crude prices threatening Africa’s top oil producers while offering relief to its energy importers.

US MILITARY

Army approves a vehicle-mounted GPS alternative known as positioning, navigation and timing, or PNT system, vital to operating in GPS-denied environments.

Lockheed Martin has revealed more about its revised low-cost cruise missile ‘truck’ design based on its Speed Racer air vehicle concept, a missile-shaped uncrewed system.

This acquisition is no longer required:’ Defense Health Agency cancels $96M wearable solicitation of biometric ring trackers.

Not playing stock market, but if I did ? I would be investing in the USA silk worm farms. Years ago the saying was: some day we would all be wearing ( KA-MOANNN-UZ ) if Lucky? Saint sheets to die on ! and satin pillows to cry on.

Crespo, you have got your head on backwards. Your scare tactics are failing. If you disagree with Trump and Musk and others of his ilk, go someplace else.
Your little autobiography there doesn’t impress me. Go build a company like Tesla then come back. Some people just talk, others DO!
