New Combat Droids Join Ukrainian Army

Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has approved the operational use of the Droid TW 12.7 robotic combat system, a new tracked platform equipped with a Browning 12.7 mm machine gun.

The announcement on December 9 follows successful reliability tests that demonstrated the system’s readiness for battlefield deployment.

Developed by the Ukrainian company Devdroid, the Droid TW 12.7 enhances operational flexibility and safety by allowing remote control via a tablet. Using digital communication networks, including Starlink and LTE, the system provides commanders with the ability to engage targets from a distance while minimizing risks to personnel.

According to Devdroid, the robotic system has an operational range of approximately 14 kilometers and can destroy enemy targets at distances of up to 1,000 meters. The platform’s digital integration allows for precise control, even in challenging battlefield conditions.

“This combat system significantly improves the effectiveness of mission execution while reducing risks to soldiers’ lives. Developed in Ukraine, the Droid TW 12.7 is suitable for both defensive and offensive operations, equipping the Armed Forces of Ukraine with modern technologies,” the company’s website states.

The Droid’s affordability has also been highlighted as an advantage. Each unit is estimated to cost around $30,000, a price comparable to that of a commercial vehicle, making it an economical choice for modernizing military capabilities.

This latest development reflects Ukraine’s continued commitment to advancing its defense technologies amidst ongoing conflict, providing its forces with innovative solutions to enhance their combat effectiveness and operational safety.
