Top Executive May Have Lied To Congress, Lawmakers Warn Ahead Of Possible Charges

-

A lawyer for the corporate industry may have lied to about comments captured by undercover investigators, and now lawmakers are warning her to amend her testimony or face possible charges.

In testimony before Congress, National Abortion Federation chief legal strategist Talcott Camp denied knowing whether she commented on the threat posed when an unborn child's skull is shattered during an abortion, despite knowing the comment had been captured by undercover investigators and confirming to a court they were accurate.

U.S. Representatives Chip Roy (TX-21) and Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Mike Johnson (LA-4) have issued a letter to Talcott, giving her “the opportunity amend her testimony for possibly misleading Congress during a May 2023 House Judiciary Committee hearing.”

“On May 16, 2023, you testified before the House Judiciary Committee Subcommittee… As part of your testimony, you questioned the authenticity of statements recorded on video that you had previously made and that the National Abortion Federation had certified as authentic in court proceedings. Naturally, these conflicting facts and statements raise serious questions regarding the accuracy of your testimony,” Roy and Johnson write.

“Providing false and misleading information to Congress violates the law. It is our goal to give you the opportunity to correct the record and ensure that the American people and their congressional representatives have a complete understanding of the truth,” they added.

A statement from Roy's office summarized the exchange:

At the hearing, Camp was questioned about her previous publicly disclosed video statement regarding the crushing of a baby's skull as part of the abortion procedure. The quote from that video follows: “I'm like, oh, my God, I get it. When the skull is broken, that's really sharp. I get it. I understand why people are talking about getting that skull out, that calvarium.”

When Representative Roy asked, “So, true or false, did you say that?” Camp replied, “It's impossible to know Congressman.” She was asked a second time, “Would you have said that?” “Is that something you would have said?” She replied, “I don't know, Congressman.”

The lawmakers warned Talcott of potential charges if the testimony is not corrected.

“Testimony before Congress ought to be true and knowingly providing materially false information to Congress ought to be punished by the Department of Justice. Therefore, we would like to give you the opportunity to amend your testimony,” they write.

  1. why is ahe being given the opportunity to correct the record and ensure that the American people and their congressional representatives have a complete understanding of the truth?

she lied to congress. arrest her and toss her in prison for five years. that is the law. republicans are such wimps.

  2. Why don’t they start arresting people who lie to congress? Isn’t it a crime? Does a judge in a courtroom give a witness or defendent an opportunity to change their testimony after the fact? No, no they do not! The GOP needs to grow a pair.
