The appeals court former President Donald Trump had put his faith in to overturn Judge Tanya S. Chutkan's limited gag order has issued its ruling.
One that's sure to disappoint the GOP front-runner.
The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals declared Friday that Trump “does not have an unlimited right to speak.” The three-judge panel upheld most of the gag order imposed on the former president in his federal election interference case.
The only change appears to be that Trump is allowed to publicly speak against Special Counsel Jack Smith. He's prohibited from making public comments about Smith's family, potentially witnesses, attorneys and their families or court staff.
The 68-page ruling does not preclude Trump from criticizing Judge Chutkan, the Justice Department or the Biden administration.
The decision sets the stage for an appeal to the United States Supreme Court. Legal experts believe that the gag order is unlikely to be stayed or taken up by the Supreme Court.
