Nov. 6, 2024 – The Department of Justice (DOJ) is reportedly preparing to wind down its criminal cases against President-elect Donald Trump, citing longstanding policies that restrict prosecuting a sitting president. The move, which is anticipated to conclude the cases even before Trump formally assumes office, aligns with DOJ’s policy that bars prosecution of a sitting president during their term.
Special Counsel Jack Smith, who had been leading the investigations, was initially expected to continue his efforts until the final possible moment, potentially pushing the cases right up to Inauguration Day. Some speculated that Smith might try to accelerate the proceedings, forcing Trump to take action to halt them or prompting a swift DOJ handover under a new attorney general.
However, sources indicate that this will not be the course taken. “The thinking inside the department is that these cases can’t go forward under DOJ’s policy,” according to one official familiar with the decision. Rather than aiming for a last-minute escalation, the DOJ appears to be adopting a more restrained approach, effectively suspending the cases with Trump’s inauguration now imminent.

The DOJ cited their policy that presidents can't be prosecuted however it was assumed they would work up until the "last day."

This development is likely to stir debate, as the DOJ’s decision to wrap up the cases reflects its commitment to institutional policies while also signaling a substantial shift in approach as Trump prepares to assume the presidency.

Great news, although more than likely if necessary #47 could simply grant himself a pardon that once and for all would clean the slate clean regardless. I’m wondering if he will pardon Biden’s son, trying to show a conciliatory effort once he is in the oval office. We’ll need to see if that happens or not.
And how much time, money and resources were wasted on this lawfare case by a illegally appointed special prosecutor and a corrupt Attorney General Merrick Garland?

Hmmm, would seem that some people at DOJ are cutting and running ahead of time. Thos ba—ar–s are running scared, and so they should. This is one department that needs some serious house cleaning.
