Emails Confirm Aurora Police Were Silenced On Venezuelan Gang Activity Months Before It Went Public

As illegal immigration continues to escalate in the United States, Colorado finds itself thrust into the national spotlight, particularly with the emergence of the notorious Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang, which has reportedly given its members in Colorado the green light to target law enforcement—a common tactic in their country of origin.

This alarming development has raised significant concerns among locals and out-of-state observers alike, especially following emails revealing police attempting to sound the alarm on the issue months before it reached the public eye.

The New York Post reports:

Cops in Aurora, Colorado were concerned about migrants in the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua terrorizing the city as early as last year — but the department’s brass and city officials continued to downplay the situation, according to leaked internal emails.

The correspondence, which Aurora Councilwoman Danielle Jurinsky shared on X, appears to show that the Aurora Police Department was aware of TdA’s presence in the area as far back as November 2023 and that some cops were growing frustrated with the city’s response to the gang’s crimes.

Despite the gravity of the situation, Governor Jared Polis’s office initially downplayed the seriousness of these issues as news of the crisis spread months ago — outright denying what was going on despite video evidence of what appeared to be armed foreign nationals overtaking apartment buildings and reports from law enforcement. This painted a picture of an administration more focused on political optics than the safety and security of Colorado residents. His dismissal only appeared to exacerbate the crisis, leaving communities vulnerable to the very threats that leaders insisted didn’t exist.

In stark contrast, former President Donald Trump has been bullish on the issue, vowing to the citizens of Colorado that he will take decisive action to solve their illegal immigration problems. Many believe it brought what has become a traditionally blue stronghold back in play for the Republican candidate, resonating with voters frustrated by the current administration’s failure to act (both on the state and federal levels). His commitment to addressing these pressing issues speaks to a growing frustration among Americans who feel their concerns are being ignored.

As previously mentioned, Tren de Aragua’s targeting of law enforcement mirrors the violent tactics employed in Venezuela. One member of the gang killed a cop in New York City, reasoning that it was “normal in his country.” This not only endangers officers, dealing with a relatively new criminal element exhibiting no fear of the law — but also sends a chilling message to communities struggling with crime and instability. Residents are left wondering whether their government is adequately equipped to handle such threats, especially when state leadership appears to be in denial about the severity of the issue.

As local police in Aurora continually expressed their concerns about the gang’s activities for months preceding national coverage, yet their warnings seemed to fall on deaf ears within the Polis administration. The inability—or unwillingness—of state officials to acknowledge and address these concerns reflects a broader failure to prioritize public safety in the face of growing criminal activity linked to illegal immigration.

One sergeant wrote in an email dated August 22, 2023 that, “many people in this agency have been denying the existence of TdA and saying the whole thing is blown out of proportion while at the same time, the patrol won’t respond to these locations without an armored vehicle.”

He continued, “As soon as this group kills an innocent person all hell is going to break loose and I would hate for us all to be exposed for not sharing information with each other and/or not being able to show that we have dedicated proactive units and investigative units directly impacting this problem.”

Another officer wrote, “I also spoke with an ICE agent today who reached out to his intel guy, the guy got back rather quickly, and stated TdA has decided to make Denver their headquarters due to sanctuary policies and location.”

The contrast between Polis’s complacency and Trump’s proactive stance could lead to a historic victory in Colorado for the Republican Party. Citizens are increasingly aware of the dire consequences of leadership more concerned with party politics than public safety.
