The Los Angeles Police Department has discontinued its protection of former Vice President Kamala Harris, following criticism that officers were being diverted from core crime-fighting duties to provide a security detail outside her Brentwood home.
- The LAPD’s elite Metropolitan Division had been assisting the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in response to President Trump’s revocation of Harris’ Secret Service protection last week.
- The protection had previously been extended by President Biden beyond the standard six-month post-office window for former VPs.
- LAPD officers were pulled from crime suppression duties in the San Fernando Valley — triggering discontent within the department.
Police Union: “This Is Nuts”
The Los Angeles Police Protective League, which represents rank-and-file officers, slammed the deployment:
“Pulling police officers from protecting everyday Angelenos to protect a failed presidential candidate… who can easily afford to pay for her own security, is nuts.”
As the Los Angeles Times reported, they demanded that Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom, both Democrats, stop using city resources for Harris’ protection, calling it political favoritism:
The statement continued, “Mayor Karen Bass should tell Governor Newsom that if he wants to curry favor with Ms. Harris and her donor base, then he should open up his own wallet because LA taxpayers should not be footing the bill for this ridiculousness.”
Newsom, who was required to sign off on CHP protection, has not confirmed the arrangement to The Times, but a spokesperson for Newsom added: “The safety of our public officials should never be subject to erratic, vindictive political impulse.”
Bass, in a statement last week, commented on Trump scrapping the security detail for Harris, saying: “This is another act of revenge following a long list of political retaliation in the form of firings, the revoking of security clearances, and more. This puts the former Vice President in danger and I look forward to working with the governor to make sure Vice President Harris is safe in Los Angeles.”
Deploying LAPD officers to protect Harris was a source of controversy within the department in years past.
Between 2017 and 2018, the LAPD provided extra protection to then-Senator Harris, but only after an official threat assessment.

What’s vindictive? She already has had protection beyond the standard six months for ex-VPs.
Harris is not longer running for VP, so why should she have taxpayers paying for her protection, with her money she can pay for it herself. Why should taxpayer pay for her book tour?
Someone ought to clue gruesome in to the FACT that she is no longer a ‘public official’ – she isn’t any more ‘entitled’ (except in the minds of the left) to a protective detail than any other ordinary Citizen. Most of us plain old ordinary people know that we are responsible for our own personal safety and security, whether we have the big bucks (like she does) to be able to pay for ‘professionals’ or not.
And remember as well that she claims to own a Glock – which would put her on an equal footing with something over 100+ MILLION legal gun owners. Oh that could easily change if the anti-gun crowd gets their wish and disarms us deplorables. She would likely get some sort of exemption though.
BRILLIANT!!!!! She is WEALTHY ENOUGH TO PROVIDE HER OWN PROTECTION!
A couple of nights ago I called the police about a loud party down the street…..long after 10PM. I waited an hour. No police. I got in my car, drove down the street, recording everything as I drove, pinpointing the location and recording the loud noise. I went to the Mission Hills station to inquire where the police were and to play the sounds. The door to the station was locked. A sign informed me that the station was closd after 6PM and to call 911 if it was an emergency. Really? The police station was CLOSED??? I drove back home in time to see a police cruiser show up. They quietened the neighbor. NOW I understand why the LAPD response time is so long. Funds are cut and they have to provide a security detail for Que Mala! And B@$$ approves of this. She was a bad choice to begin with and she needs to GO. No more communists. There is a woman who would make a GREAT mayor for Los Angeles. She is a self-made multimillionaire, smart and dedicated to this city. You can read about her online. Her name is Elaine Culotti.
