A violent member of the Latin Kings gang was arrested Thursday after allegedly stealing FBI equipment from federal vehicles during anti-deportation riots in Minneapolis, federal officials said.
Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel said the suspect took body armor and weaponry from FBI vehicles that were vandalized and ransacked during protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Wednesday night. Multiple federal vehicles were damaged in the unrest.
Authorities said the suspect was arrested Thursday, and a search is underway for additional individuals involved in the thefts and vandalism. Federal officials are offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to arrests or the recovery of stolen government property.
In a post on X, Bondi said that agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, working alongside Justice Department partners, executed an arrest warrant on a known Latin Kings gang member. She said the suspect has a history of violent criminal activity.
Fox News identified the suspect as Raul Gutierrez, 33, citing law enforcement sources. The Latin Kings are a nationally organized gang with local chapters across the United States and have been linked by law enforcement to drug trafficking, extortion, murder, and other violent crimes.
The FBI’s Minneapolis field office declined to provide additional comment beyond Patel’s statement on social media.
Video footage circulating online shows crowds vandalizing FBI vehicles, spray-painting them with graffiti, removing items from inside, and displaying what they believed to be stolen government documents, according to prior reporting by the Daily Caller News Foundation.
Authorities said the federal vehicles had been left unattended after agents used them earlier in the day while responding to a violent ambush on ICE agents. One illegal immigrant was shot in the leg during that incident, officials said.
The protests followed the fatal shooting of left-wing activist Renee Good on Jan. 7, when demonstrators confronted federal agents in Minneapolis.
Commenting on the arrest, Bondi said the case illustrates the challenges faced by federal law enforcement officers during ongoing unrest tied to immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota.
The investigation remains ongoing.
