Man Charged With Threatening To Kill President After Ramming White House Security Barrier

Details about a dangerous incident near the Monday night continue to trickle in.

U.S. Park Police arrested , 19, after he repeatedly crashed a rented U-Haul truck into the White House's security barrier. A video posted by WUSA-TV reporter Katie Lusso showed officers retrieving a Nazi Party flag and other evidence from the vehicle shortly after he was apprehended.

Guests evacuated the nearby Hay-Adams hotel as a bomb disposal robot inspected the vehicle for explosives.

Kandula, of Chesterfield, Missouri, remains in custody. He faces multiple charges, including threatening to kill, kidnap or inflict harm on the president, vice president or a family member.

“Shortly before 10:00 p.m. Monday, Uniformed Division officers detained the driver of a box truck after the vehicle collided with security barriers on the north side of Lafayette Square at 16th Street,” Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement.

There were no injuries to any Secret Service or White House personnel, Guglielmi said. 

President Biden was in Washington, D.C., on Monday meeting at the White House with House Speaker over how to raise the debt ceiling.
