Savannah Guthrie is stepping into a major new role — even as her family continues to endure a heartbreaking personal crisis.
During Monday’s episode of “Today,” Guthrie revealed that she will host a new game show based on the wildly popular Wordle, with Jimmy Fallon serving as executive producer.
“We’ve been holding in a secret between us for a long time now,” Guthrie, 54, said during the announcement.

Fallon praised the veteran broadcaster as the perfect choice for the project.
“I’m so happy it’s you — we were looking for the perfect host for this,” Fallon told her. “We needed someone who looks like they play Wordle, someone who knows how to run a show.”
“We did the pilot, and you were amazing,” he added, referencing Guthrie’s successful guest-hosting stint on “Jeopardy!” in 2021.
The upcoming series, inspired by the viral daily word game acquired by The New York Times Company, is expected to begin filming later this summer.
The announcement marks a significant career move for Guthrie, who has largely remained out of the spotlight in recent months as her family grapples with the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her home in Arizona’s Catalina Foothills on Feb. 1 and is believed by investigators to have been abducted around 2:30 a.m., according to authorities. (RELATED: New Ransom Notes Sent To TMZ Claims Knowledge Of Nancy Guthrie’s Body)
The alarming disappearance prompted Savannah Guthrie to temporarily step away from the “Today” show earlier this year as she focused on the search effort and supported her family through the ordeal.
In a deeply emotional video shared in February, Guthrie acknowledged the painful uncertainty surrounding her mother’s case.
“She may already be lost,” Guthrie said at the time. “If this is what is to be, then we will accept it, but we need to know where she is.”
After spending weeks away from television, Guthrie returned to Studio 1A in April alongside co-host Craig Melvin.
“Well, ready or not, here we go!” she told viewers during her emotional return. “Let’s do the news.”
But even as Guthrie resumes her professional responsibilities — and now prepares to launch a major primetime project — the search for her mother remains active.
On Mother’s Day, Guthrie issued another public plea for help in an emotional Instagram post featuring family memories and photos of Nancy Guthrie.
“Mother, daughter, sister, Nonie — we miss you with every breath. We will never stop looking for you. We will never be at peace until we find you,” she wrote.
“We need help. Someone knows something that can make the difference,” Guthrie continued. “Call 1800CALLFBI. You can be anonymous and the reward remains available. Please keep praying. Bring her home.”

Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing nearly 100 days after Nancy Guthrie vanished.
Chris Nanos, sheriff of Pima County Sheriff’s Department, told Fox News Digital on Friday that investigators continue to make progress in the case.
While officials have released few details publicly, the disappearance has drawn widespread national attention as supporters continue sharing information and appeals online.
