Special Counsel Obtained Search Warrant For Trump’s Twitter Account

-

A newly unsealed court filing revealed Wednesday afternoon that Special Counsel obtained a search warrant for former President 's account despite pushback from the social giant.

Twitter's initial resistance prompted a federal judge to hold Twitter in contempt and issue a $350,000 fine. The federal court of appeals in Washington, D.C. upheld the fine.

Eventually, the social media company now known as complied (after the court-ordered deadline) but was prohibited from telling Trump about it.

Smith successfully argued that if Trump knew about the warrant he would have a chance to destroy potentially incriminating evidence before prosecutors could retrieve it.

CNBC continues:

Smith's office applied for and obtained the warrant on Jan. 17.

The special counsel at the same time obtained a non-disclosure order from a Washington, D.C., federal district court judge that “prohibited Twitter from disclosing the existence or contents of the search warrant to any person.”

The district court found probable cause to search the Twitter account for evidence of criminal offenses,” the decision noted.

“Moreover, the district court found that there were ‘reasonable grounds to believe' that disclosing the warrant to former President Trump ‘would seriously jeopardize the ongoing investigation' by giving him 'an opportunity to destroy evidence, change patterns of behavior .. or notify confederates,” the ruling says.

  1. It will be interesting if this thing ever ends how much Special Counsel Jack Smith spent. It appears that he has an unlimited budget and he wants to spend as much as possible. These clowns better hope that Trump is not elected because payback can be hell!!

    • Rich – of course “he has an unlimited budget” – after all fedzilla can simply print more greenbacks! AFAIK there is no accountability mechanism in place for insuring he is operating in a fair and impartial manner. Something about checks and balances comes to mind.
There is a reason the old saying about not being able to fight city hall rings a bell as well. You can. but you need to have very deep pockets. 🙁

  2. And so, what is the rule to fishing expeditions? Is the rule: If you are republican and the judges don’t like you the prosecutors can fish until they grow old and die…? And if you are democrat like the Clintons or Bidens a prosecutor has to let the criminals destroy all evidence before they can investigate the crimes…? Seems like that is the rule in practice!
After all the January 6th commission has destroyed all exculpatory evidence, so Trump couldn’t use it?

  3. Desperate attempts is right! It makes no difference even if Pres. Trump is in jail. We, who think he was and will be again one of the greatest presidents of all time, are still going to vote for him as President!
