Multiple outlets are reporting that Tyler Robinson, the suspect in Charlie Kirk’s assassination, arranged a peaceful surrender before turning himself in to authorities.
Robinson was afraid of being shot by police when approached. He made plans (with his parents and a family friend) to turn himself in under “peaceful” or “quiet” conditions as he didn’t want a large SWAT-team raid or a dramatic police operation at his home.

As the New York Post reports, Washington County, Utah, Sheriff Nate Brooksby revealed details about Robinson’s transfer to police custody, which began after he received a call from a former law enforcement colleague informing him that Robinson was the shooter:
Robinson reportedly had suicidal thoughts but was convinced by his parents not to harm himself.
Brooksby said Robinson knew he would be caught and was afraid of a SWAT raid on his home.
He was also afraid of being shot by the police, the sheriff said.
“Tyler knew it was just inevitable with all the law enforcement pressure that he, his picture in the news, the gun, the gun on the news,” he said. “He knew it was inevitable that he would be caught.”
Brooksby received the call at 8:02 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, from a friend who knew the Robinson family through their church.
Tyler ultimately surrendered in a somber and subdued manner, accompanied by his parents.
