Trump-Appointed Judge To Oversee Case

A district court judge appointed by President Donald Trump may send him to prison.

Judge Aileen Cannon will oversee the classified documents case.

At least initially.

Last fall, Cannon approved Trump’s request for a “special master” to review the materials seized at Mar-a-Lago. The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals eventually overruled her decision.

As ABC News reports:

Cannon’s apparent assignment would add yet another unprecedented wrinkle to a case involving the first federal charges against a former president: Trump appointed Cannon to the federal bench in 2020, meaning that, if Trump is ultimately convicted, she would be responsible for determining the sentence – which may include prison time – for the man who elevated her to the role.

Trump, 76, faces at least seven counts in the indictment, including violating a provision of the Espionage Act. Historically, convictions for violating the Espionage Act almost always led to prison time.

ABC continues:

Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and claimed again late Thursday that he was innocent.

Cannon is no stranger to the case. The 42-year-old judge appointed a “special master” last year to review those materials seized from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate. Legal experts accused Cannon of handing Trump a series of head-scratching victories over the course of those proceedings.

In one instance, Cannon restricted the FBI from using the seized classified documents as part of their ongoing probe until she completed her review. Cannon’s order was ultimately thrown out in its entirety by an 11th Circuit Court of appeals panel, which found she overstepped in exercising her jurisdiction in the probe.

The 45th president is scheduled to appear in Miami for his arraignment Tuesday. Details of the booking procedures remain under wraps.

I am sure the left will intimidate Judge Cannon until she surrenders because of their unlawful pressure. They (the left/dems) will stop at nothing to protect their power and unlawfulness. I hope the Judge is fair and wears the blindfold that equal justice is supposed to. The dems have ripped off the blindfold on lady justice. The American people are not in control anymore. It is no more a country for and by the people. It is for and by the liars and cheats.

as powerful as the Democrats have become and as helpless as the Republicans are, I don’t see this farce ending in prison time for a former president. This “erase your competition” tactic seems totally “banana republic” to me and makes America look ridiculous. I can’t believe this is happening in America and pray that Donald can reverse America and get a group of people to run this country correctly.
