Trump Lawyers Notify Judge, May Attempt To Have Trial Moved

-

Attorneys for former President notified Georgia state court that they may attempt to move their client's Fulton County case to federal court.

ABC News' Olivia Rubin has more:

If Trump seeks removal to federal court, he would be the sixth defendant in District Attorney sweeping racketeering case to do so, joining former Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, former DOJ official, Jeffrey Clark, former Coffee County GOP chair Cathy Latham, current Georgia state Sen. Shawn Still, and former Georgia GOP chair David Shafer.

Meadows' motion for removal, filed on Aug. 15 by his attorney George Terwilliger and Atlanta-based attorney Joseph Englert, is based on a federal law that they argue requires the removal of criminal proceedings brought in state court to the federal court system when someone is charged for actions they allegedly took as a federal official acting “under color” of their office.

Shafer, in a separate filing Thursday, accused one of the lead prosecutors in the case of an “improper communication” with him after he was charged — and is requesting an evidentiary hearing and sanctions on the matter.

Shafer, who was one of Trump's so-called “fake electors” in the alleged election interference plot, claims in the filing that the private law firm of Fulton County special prosecutor Nathan Wade sent a mailer to his home essentially offering him representation by the firm of the prosecutor that indicted him.

Shafter's attorney, Craig Gillen, claims the mailer is not only a “violation of the anti-contact provision” but far more egregious “given the fact that it constitutes a communication with a criminal defendant by the lead prosecuting attorney's law firm regarding charges in which the attorney has been responsible for bringing.”

Gillen is requesting an evidentiary hearing on the matter.

Trump and his 18 co-defendants have pleaded not guilty to all charges in the election subversion case.

The former president and current GOP front-runner is the most outspoken defendant, categorizing the charges as political persecution.

  1. Trump should do just that move to federal court. If he goes it screws the who case of the DA against everyone else. The request should be made to a federal judge outside of Atlanta and if necessary appealed all the way to the Supreme court.

  2. Trumps attornies definitely need to move this bogus trial to federal. Court. These prosecutors are out to get their day of fame and create charges that are not valid.

  3. It doesn’t matter anyway! Even if trump doesn’t win the election the Republican that wins the presidency will pardon everyone concerned. This whole phony democrat circus is just to slow walk the investigation until the 2024 election. Also to use it as a distraction for the Biden corruption scandal.

  4. Trust the wisdom of Trump who must require his lawyers to move the case to the federal court system. I pray that God will continue to bless him as he is the only political person (along with his faith in God) who can turn our country around. Pence, who claims to the be a born-again Christian, makes me ill. He is no more born-again than a peanut butter sandwich. Trump, however, had a soul-saving experience under the work of James Dobson’s Faith for the Family workers. He is growing each day and supports Israel which many R’s don’t anymore as well as pro-life issues. We need Trump politically and God spiritually back in America. This site loves to remove my posts. I will see what they do with this one to find out what their real worldview actually is as they normally don’t want truth or anything biblical.
