An attempted traffic stop in Washington last week turned into a wild chase involving two PIT maneuvers along snowy roads as deputies finally apprehended a suspect who assaulted a K-9 during a standoff.

The incident happened early Friday when Olympia police tried to pull over a pickup truck that sped off, KIRO-TV reports. Thurston County sheriff’s deputies picked up the pursuit as it entered the Tumwater area.

Deputies executed a PIT maneuver, and the pickup spun out on the snowy road. The driver then put the vehicle in reverse to try to escape authorities.

A second PIT maneuver was executed, and deputies pinned the pickup against a tree. A standoff ensued for nearly an hour until deputies used foam bullets to knock out a window.

A K-9 was finally deployed through the broken window, and the suspect allegedly assaulted the dog before he was taken into custody.

Two deputies suffered minor injuries in the incident. Two cruisers also were damaged.
