ANALYSIS – Since the first reported outbreak of the deadly COVID-19 virus in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, the ‘Wuhan Virus' as it was originally dubbed has been surrounded by mystery, paranoia, misinformation and fanaticism.
While some analysts, like me, immediately focused on the presence of a Chinese government Level 4 Biosafety Lab (BSL-4) within a few miles of the reported outbreak, others just as quickly ran to discredit any connection to China's often recklessly run bioresearch facilities.
But now even Biden's Energy Department believes the virus leaked from a Chinese lab. And that is a big deal.
We have come a long way from a time not long ago, when, aided by the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP's) bullying and draconian efforts to contain any news of the virus from ground zero, and the CCP's sycophants and fellow travelers in the media spouting their propaganda, we were forced to stop referring to it as the Wuhan Virus.
But not only that, we were also forced to accept the brutal dictatorship's official party line, claiming some sort of natural, spontaneous creation of the virus among bats and pangolins in a wet market in the city of Wuhan.
Things only got worse when in 2021, President Trump expressed his opinion that a lab leak was a likely cause of the virus' origin.
The entire leftist machinery, scientific community and media establishment suddenly lost their collective minds and fanatically went into overdrive to discredit this theory, labeling it a crazy conspiracy.
But they didn't stop there – they soon blocked or removed any reference to a lab leak from any platforms they controlled.
While educated and informed observers like me continued to push on the much more likely theory that the strange and highly contagious virus leaked from the BSL-4 at the Wuhan Institute for Virology (WIV), our efforts were met with derision and worse – cancelation.
This was especially true on social media. My well-researched and written articles and posts on LinkedIn, for example, were repeatedly blocked by the Big Tech overlords as ‘misinformation' and played a big part in getting permanently banned from that platform.
I have since written about how the media, scientific community and even some in the politicized intelligence community finally began accepting that perhaps there might be some merit to possibly, just maybe, exploring some aspect of the theory that COVID leaked from a lab.
But that soft consensus favoring a lab leak has only grown since.
And now even Joe Biden's Energy Department is backing the ‘crazy lab leak conspiracy theory.'
The Wall Street Journal reports:
The U.S. Energy Department [DOE] has concluded that the Covid pandemic most likely arose from a laboratory leak, according to a classified intelligence report recently provided to the White House and key members of Congress.
The shift by the Energy Department, which previously was undecided on how the virus emerged, is noted in an update to a 2021 document by Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines's office.
The new report highlights how different parts of the intelligence community have arrived at disparate judgments about the pandemic's origin. The Energy Department now joins the Federal Bureau of Investigation in saying the virus likely spread via a mishap at a Chinese laboratory. Four other agencies, along with a national intelligence panel, still judge that it was likely the result of a natural transmission, and two are undecided.
The Energy Department's conclusion is the result of new intelligence and is significant because the agency has considerable scientific expertise and oversees a network of U.S. national laboratories, some of which conduct advanced biological research.
While DOE reportedly made its judgment with ‘low confidence,' the FBI previously came to the conclusion that the pandemic was likely the result of a lab leak as early as 2021 with ‘moderate confidence.'
It was the first federal agency to determine the most likely origin of COVID-19 was through a leak at the WIV.
Six other agencies, including the National Intelligence Council (NIC), are still reluctant to back the lab-leak origin, while two others are undecided, according to the report.
Only four U.S. intelligence agencies still believe the virus was natural in origin.
The FBI still holds to its original view that it was leaked from a lab.
And the FBI's assessment matters because as the WSJ notes, it “employs a cadre of microbiologists, immunologists and other scientists and is supported by the National Bioforensic Analysis Center, which was established at Fort Detrick, Md., in 2004 to analyze anthrax and other possible biological threats.”
This is something the other members of the huge U.S. Intelligence Community (IC) do not possess.
But why does DOE's assessment matter?
Well, the Energy Department's conclusion “is the result of new intelligence and is significant because the agency has considerable scientific expertise and oversees a network of U.S. national laboratories, some of which conduct advanced biological research.”
They are the go-to government experts on secret labs and bioresearch.
So, there's that.
And it's important to note that while now agreeing on COVID's likely origins in a Chinese biolab, they arrived at those conclusions for very different reasons.
So, as we are increasingly seeing, the ‘crazy conspiracy theories' about COVID's man-made origins weren't so crazy after all.
