Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego is launching an effort to challenge a new Trump Administration immigration policy that could require many green card applicants to leave the United States and complete the process abroad.

According to a report from The Hill, Gallego is not only seeking to overturn the policy itself but is also pursuing a procedural strategy that could make it easier for Congress to reverse the change.

The dispute revolves around a recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policy affecting how certain immigrants obtain lawful permanent residency.

PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEF (PDB) – How, when and can the US military be deployed in American cities around the election? In this highly polarizing election season, law enforcement and intelligence groups have been warning that violence or unrest poses a threat to Tuesday’s election — and what could come next.

We’re already seeing it: Ballot boxes in the Pacific Northwest have been set ablaze with incendiary devices. A Texas man allegedly punched a 69-year-old poll worker after he was asked to remove his MAGA hat.

And a recent report from the University of Pennsylvania found that “civil unrest in the face of the 2024 presidential election and beyond is a realistic if not likely possibility.”

That report touches on a once-unfathomable question that’s been getting a lot of attention recently: Could the military be called on to quell election-related violence in America’s streets?

National Guard on standby in case of election violence. The governors of three states — Washington, Nevada and Oregon — said they’re prepared to use the National Guard to help with potential civil unrest on Election Day or the days after.

MEANWHILE – Chaos and confusion’: Microsoft braces for foreign election interference in days ahead that go beyond the tactics deployed four years ago.

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – Here’s a roundup of today’s other top defense stories ending the week from conservative national security expert PAUL CRESPO.

Not the President’s Daily Brief, but almost as good – PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEFING – the PDB:

HOMELAND SECURITY

Jury sees video of subway chokehold on violent homeless man that led to veteran Daniel Penny’s manslaughter trial.

POLITICS

Harris and Trump are ignoring the US defense crisis. Illegal immigration, the economy, abortion, character and personality will determine the 47th president, not critical national security issues.

Many military ballots won’t be counted until after Election Day. Many states won’t know the results of the presidential election on the night of Nov. 5, and military ballots are partially to blame.

Three Republican lawmakers are claiming that U.S. troops have been told that the military faces a shortage of backup absentee ballots that would allow them to vote in the election.

US POWER OVERSEAS

B-52 bombers arrive in Middle East, destroyer USS The Sullivans deploys after more US forces ordered to the region.

Involving US troops in Israeli conflicts requires congressional approval, leftist House lawmakers argue.

Air Force to send latest bomber task force to Europe to train with NATO allies.

SEE 10 US and allied fighters from Japan, and South Korea escort B-1 in Pacific show off force just days after North Korea tested an intercontinental ballistic missile. China launched its own wave of its warplanes near Taiwan the same day.

IRAN THREAT

Iran and its terror proxies transformed Yemen’s Houthi rebels into a potent military force, UN experts say.

CHINA THREAT

Philippine military drills to seize an island in the South China Sea likely to be frowned upon by China.

China’s template for a blue-water coast guard. The two Coast Guard cutters Meishan and Xiushan recently ended a dramatic 35-day deployment that brought them from the East China Sea to the Sea of Japan, the North Pacific, the Bering Sea, and, ultimately, the Arctic Ocean — and back again.

China says ‘unexpected obstruction’ pushed its spy plane into Japanese airspace this summer.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

NATO’s Secretary-General says Russian attacks on Europe are ‘intensifying.’ It is staging hybrid attacks on other countries as part of its all-out war on Ukraine.

Sweden has quashed plans for 13 offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea because they could slow its response to a Russian missile attack.

Ukraine slams Google for revealing location of its military sites in its latest Maps update, with the tech giant scrambling to remove the images.

NORTH KOREA THREAT

US, South Korean military drones carry out unprecedented live-fire training.

South Korea and the EU on Monday expressed concerns that Russia could reward North Korea’s troop deployment to Ukraine war with transfers of sensitive technology to enhance its nuclear and missile programs.

North Korea fires several short-range ballistic missiles toward its eastern coast ahead of US presidential election.

SPACE THREAT

Europe picks consortium for sovereign satellite constellation IRIS². This, as the EU seeks its own satellite broadband system to ensure the bloc isn’t reliant on foreign entities such as Elon Musk’s Starlink.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

Europe’s MBDA unveils submarine-launched Exocet missile to strike heavily protected naval vessels and stealthy targets.

Japan successfully launches a new defense satellite aimed at speedier military operations and communication aboard flagship H3 rocket.

German Navy confirms its supersized frigate will avoid Houthi missile and drone dangers of the Red Sea. It is returning from an extensive deployment to the Indo-Pacific region via the Cape of Good Hope.

US MILITARY

‘I would be comfortable’ if USAF took over air base defense from Army, says Air Force Secretary. The Pentagon should give the Air Force the mission and the resources to carry it out.

Navy extends service life of 3 guided missile cruisers that would have been retired in 2026, pushing Ticonderoga class into 2029.

The Navy is seeking to recruit 40,600 new sailors in fiscal year 2025 after exceeding its recruitment goals last year.
