Good morning.

Congress is mounting its strongest challenge yet to President Trump’s Iran War, federal prosecutors have unveiled a sanctions-evasion case tied to Iran’s nuclear program, and investigators in Washington, D.C., are digging deeper into allegations that police officials manipulated crime statistics.

The House of Representatives voted Wednesday to approve a war powers resolution to limit unauthorized American military involvement in Iran.

Sponsored by Rep. Gregory Meeks of New York, the measure would require the White House.

Former national security staff blast Trump’s actions on Jan. 6 as harmful to democracy. President Donald Trump’s decision to ignore defense officials and encourage rioters during the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, undermined both his standing as commander-in-chief and American democracy, former administration officials testified on Thursday night.

A Jan. 6 mystery: Why did it take so long to deploy the National Guard? As the House committee investigating Jan. 6 used its prime-time hearing on Thursday to document President Donald J. Trump’s lack of forceful response to the attack on the Capitol by his supporters, it again raised one of the enduring mysteries of that day: Why did it take so long to deploy the National Guard?

CHINA THREAT

Taiwan’s concerns on speed of arms sales will be conveyed to US, says ex-US defense secretary. Former U.S. defense secretary Mark Esper said on Thursday he would take back to Washington D.C. concerns expressed in Taiwan about the speed of arms sales to the island and the need to get greater access to weapons like portable missiles.

RUSSIA THREAT

Russia is ‘about to run out of steam,’ MI6 chief says. Ukraine is “still a winnable campaign,” and America’s divisions are undermining its global influence, said Britain’s spy chief in a rare and sweeping public interview.

Ukraine says air force needs western fighter jets, and the US is preparing to help. The U.S. Air Force is working to decide how best to train Ukraine’s pilots as the embattled nation’s air force looks to modernize.

Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, day 149. Russia’s military is likely to start an operational pause of some kind in Ukraine in the coming weeks, giving Kyiv a key opportunity to strike back, Britain’s spy chief said.

Ukraine tries to make the case that it can win the war. As Ukraine employs new long-range rocket systems, Kyiv is telling the world it can defeat Russian forces, but it’s unclear what a win would look like.

Russia has lost 15,000 soldiers in Ukraine, CIA chief estimates. CIA Director William Burns on Wednesday estimated that 15,000 Russians have died in Ukraine and some 45,000 have been wounded.

US seeking to understand Russia’s failure to project cyber power in Ukraine. After some five months of war raging in Eastern Europe, feared Russian ranks of hackers have had an underwhelming impact on Ukrainian networks and critical infrastructure in the U.S. and other nations. The question is: why?

The American-made weapons that could change everything. It seems that increasingly these days, the United States is letting Ukraine fight, valiantly, but is it with one hand tied behind its back?

NORTH KOREA THREAT

S. Korea, US to resume major field training during combined military drills. South Korea and the United States will resume long-suspended live field training during their joint military drills, Seoul’s defense ministry said on Friday, as they work to curb North Korea’s evolving nuclear and missile programs.

IRAN THREAT

BECAUSE – BIDEN – Air Force official expects Iran to resume attacks on US. The top U.S. Air Force general in the Middle East warned on Thursday that Iran-backed militias could resume attacks in the region against the United States and its allies as tensions rise — assaults that could lead to a new Mideast escalation.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

Counterterrorism still a pressing issue for special operations, Africa command nominees. Lt. Gens. Bryan Fenton and Michael Langley took senators’ questions at their Thursday confirmation hearing.

Russia’s moves in Africa problematic for US interests, general agrees. Moscow’s use of the mercenary outfit Wagner Group to raise Russia’s profile in Africa is a particular concern, officials said.

US MILITARY AND SPACE

US Army’s floating equipment stockpile in Pacific gets first test. The U.S. Army’s floating equipment stockpile in the Indo-Pacific theater was put to the test for the first time in exercises in the Philippines, revealing the changing nature of how the service’s prepositioned stock is used, according to Brig. Gen. Jay Bartholomees.

President Trump offered 10,000 National Guard troops to Nancy Pelosi…who was in charge of security for the Capitol…before January 6. She refused. Why didn’t Pelosi call for the National Guard? It was her responsibility.

Trump did nothing wrong you have no evidence and if it goes to a real trial and a real judge it will be kicked out in a real trial they dont allow hear say or lies where is your proof

    Patsy Lopez De Victoria

Trump did what the house and secret service wanted him to do. He wanted to call in the National Guard way before this happened on Jan. 6, but the smart up there in Washinton didn’t see and need for it because it was mostly paid for by them to riot just like their paid clowns were paid to and told it was ok to riot all over the country. This is all a show for the Democrats to try again to get Trump out of their way.
