Justice Sonia Sotomayor has indicated she has no plans to retire from the Supreme Court, despite some liberal activists urging her to step down while a Democratic president and Senate can appoint her successor. At 70, Sotomayor, who has Type 1 diabetes, remains committed to her role on the highest court.
According to a CNN report, an ally of Sotomayor emphasized her dedication. Such statements come amid ongoing speculation about the future of the court, as political figures and pundits debate the potential implications of any vacancies over the coming years under a Republican presidency and a GOP-controlled Senate:
“She’s in great health, and the court needs her now more than ever,” said one person close to the justice.
Some progressives have suggested Sotomayor, the most senior liberal on the conservative Supreme Court, should step down so that Biden could try to name a replacement in the short window before Trump takes office in January. Talk has simmered for months over the possibility of Sotomayor retiring so that Biden could name a successor and ensure the seat remains a reliable vote for the liberal wing, but that has gone nowhere.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders said Sunday that he doesn’t think Sotomayor should step down from the court.
“I don’t think it’s sensible,” Sanders, an independent who caucuses with Senate Democrats, said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
Earlier this week, CNN contributor Bakari Sellers suggested that Democrats could pressure Sotomayor to retire, potentially opening the door for Vice President Kamala Harris to take her place—a move Sellers characterized as an attempt to provide Harris with an influential role following her presidential ambitions.
Bakari Sellers on CNN says he wants Joe Biden to nominate Kamala Harris to SCOTUS, a woman the country just rejected. He says he wants to make Republicans go "crazy" and stir up "chaos."

Sellers’ remarks underscore a growing concern among Democrats regarding the current ideological composition of the court. Liberal voices worry that if Sotomayor remains on the bench, the Supreme Court’s 6-3 conservative majority could shift to 7-2 in the event of an unforeseen tragedy.
Their anxiety mirrors the concerns that surrounded the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s decision to remain on the bench during her final years—a choice that many Democrats lamented in hindsight, given the appointment of Justice Amy Coney Barrett following her passing.
For now, Justice Sotomayor’s allies publicly maintain that her commitment and health are unwavering, emphasizing their belief in the importance of her continued presence on the court.

The Democrats have pushed for the dismantling of our historic position in the world, seeming to want us to be a third world nation by ignoring and in many cases knowingly disregarding our constitution and bill of rights. They have been pushing to stuff the courts with additional members added to the current 9 members of the SCOTUS something that clearly tries to disrupt our ability to have a sane fair Supreme Court. They openly have opened the borders allowing possibly 20 million illegal immigrants to cross our borders many hardened criminals to subvert the voting process. Our nation could be on the brink of financial disaster paying for all of them with housing, medical, welfare, food stamps giving them a better lifestyle than American veterans. America just voted them out, frustrated with our current state of affairs with inflation, food and gas prices through the roof and what seems to be a deaf ear in fixing any of it. America voted Trump in by a land slide only seen in Ronald Reagans election where he captured 49 of 50 states in his election in 1984. We are about to see a quick turnaround when Trump takes office January 20, 2025. He’ll start where he left off with a stronger America, the left won’t be able to do what they did in 2016 accusing him of Russian collusion which for two years hampered his administration but to no avail, Trump continued to lead and do his utmost to make America great again, hence creating the MAGA movement that we saw on election night. God bless America.
Don’t need Kamala Harris on the Supreme Court Bench. Hang in there Justice Sotomayor.
GOOD; Wait until Trump has been in office for at least a year to RESIGN, so that Trump ill have he chance o elect a replacement
Maybe it’s just me, but I do suspect that Justice Sotomayor was quietly and profoundly insulted by the notion that she could be replaced by the likes of Kamala Harris but won’t say so.
Or she wants a bigger BRIBE like Bernie Sanders got to drop out and let Hillary move on. Leftist SCOTUS justices are not noble.
…CORRECTION:
Justice Sotomayor Signals No Plans To Retire Amid Calls From …LEFTISTS …For Strategic Departure
…THERE, FIXED DAT 4U!
Who needs or wants Kamala Harris on the Supreme Court Bench. I as a republican certainly don’t., but I would like for you to hold your ground Justice Sotomayor.
