Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego is launching an effort to challenge a new Trump Administration immigration policy that could require many green card applicants to leave the United States and complete the process abroad.

According to a report from The Hill, Gallego is not only seeking to overturn the policy itself but is also pursuing a procedural strategy that could make it easier for Congress to reverse the change.

The dispute revolves around a recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policy affecting how certain immigrants obtain lawful permanent residency.

WEDNESDAY PDB – Fire every single mid-level bureaucrat: Vance on federal employees. “I think that what Trump should [do is] … fire every single mid-level bureaucrat, every civil servant in the administrative state,” Vance said in 2021.

“Replace them with our people. And when the courts … stop you, stand before the country like Andrew Jackson did and say, ‘The chief justice has made his ruling. Now let him enforce it.’”

This echoes Trump’s plans to overhaul the federal civil service, which include reinstituting Schedule F, an abortive effort at the end of the former president’s first term that would have reclassified tens of thousands of federal employees in “policy-related” jobs into excepted service positions, effectively making them at-will employees.

Vance is also lead sponsor of the Dismantle DEI Act, a bill introduced last month that would rescind President Biden’s 2021 executive order advancing DEI efforts at federal agencies

MEANWHILE REPUBLICANS ALSO WANT TO FOCUS ON PENTAGON’S BUREAUCRACY – GOP: Get woke left-wing Democrats fired from the Pentagon as soon as possible. Republicans are vowing this in their newly approved platform that lays out their governing vision should they win in November’s elections.

Republicans have correctly blamed wokeness for the military’s ongoing struggles with recruiting and the American public’s declining trust in the armed forces.

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – Here’s a roundup of today’s other top defense stories from conservative national security expert PAUL CRESPO.

Not the President’s Daily Brief, but almost as good – PAUL’S DAILY BRIEFING – the PDB:

NATIONAL SECURITY

Sentinel ICBM work to continue while Air Force restructures to cut sky-high costs. The new ICBM is set to replace the service’s aging arsenal of Minuteman III missiles.

USAF ‘absolutely committed’ to keep Minuteman nuke ICBMs going while Sentinel replacement is delayed.  However, the moves won’t constitute a service life extension program.

Trump allies draft AI order to launch ‘Manhattan Projects’ for defense. This, to develop military technology and immediately review “unnecessary and burdensome regulations” — signaling how a Trump administration may pursue AI policies favorable to Silicon Valley.

HOMELAND SECURITY

Iran threat prompted more security at Trump rally as officials warn of potential for copycat attacks. The threat on Donald Trump’s life from Iran was unrelated to the assassination attempt on the GOP presidential nominee, two U.S. This, as law enforcement warned of the potential for more violence inspired by the shooting.

GOP-led states have pledged hundreds of troops and spent millions of dollars to help Texas secure the border this year. The federal government has deployed National Guard to the border for years, but more than a dozen states have dug into their own budgets to send even more personnel.

An Army ammunition plant’s bullets keep showing up in mass shootings — lawmakers want answers.

POLITICS

With Trump pick, JD Vance is first post-9/11 vet on major party ticket. Vance, named Monday as the vice-presidential running mate of former President Donald Trump, is known as many things — a bestselling author, a Republican senator, a former venture capitalist, a leading voice of conservatism, a one time Trump critic — and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

WHAT COULD GO WRONG – Deployable voting machines could be available to overseas troops by next year. They are now operational.

Sen. Bob Menendez guilty of taking bribes in cash and gold and acting as Egypt’s foreign agent. He abused the power of his office to protect allies from criminal investigations and enrich associates, including his wife, by softening his position toward that country as he speeded its access to millions of dollars in U.S. military aid.

US POWER OVERSEAS

Islamic State attacks on track to double in Iraq and Syria compared to last year. The U.S. Central Command said Wednesday that the Islamic State terror group is trying “to reconstitute.”

U.S. Central Command military recommends permanently dismantling the pier that’s helping deliver aid into Gaza.

CHINA THREAT

Trump tells Taiwan to expect a higher price tag for US defense. He also accused Taiwan of sinking the U.S. semiconductor sector, signaling he wants a more transactional approach to shielding the island from China.

US renews call on China to stop aggressive actions in disputed sea. The U.S. added that a broader web of security alliances has emerged to preserve the rule of law in the disputed waters.

China, Philippines set up a hotline to prevent South China Sea clashes. This will open a direct line of communication between the presidential offices of China and the Philippines to help prevent any new confrontation from spiraling out of control.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

Ukraine faces twin challenges of fighting Russia and shifting political sands in the US. This, after almost 30 months of war with Russia.

Pushing quick end to Ukraine War, Orban plays Trump’s messenger to EU. Prime Minister Viktor Orban of Hungary has been on a self-appointed diplomatic mission that aligns with Donald J. Trump’s preferences in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

IT’S ON THEM NOW – Germany to halve military aid for Ukraine despite possible Trump White House. This, even with the possibility that Republican candidate Donald Trump could return to the White House and curb support for Kyiv.

With US aid flowing, Ukraine’s defense stiffens — for now. Ukraine has successfully stymied Russia, but that could change if a reelected Trump cuts off aid.

ISRAEL’S WAR AGAINST TERROR

Israel’s military will begin drafting ultra-Orthodox men on Sunday. It could rattle the government.

Israel pounds central Gaza, sends tanks into north of Rafah. This, as Israeli tanks carried out a limited advance further into Rafah in the south.

NORTH KOREA THREAT

A North Korean diplomat in Cuba defected to South Korea in November, a possible blow to leader Kim. This, the latest defection by members of the North’s ruling elite.

SPACE THREAT

Refuellable satellites offer critical edge amidst intensifying threats in space. The U.S. States Space Force’s deliberate approach to satellite servicing and refueling has provided time for debate and the development of solutions that have now resolved both the technical and budgetary challenges holding refuellable satellites back.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

New UK government orders review of ‘hollowed out’ armed forces. The U.K.’s new Labor government ordered a “root and branch review” of the armed forces which are desperately in need of strengthening.

Jet fighters from around the world join in on massive exercise in Australia. “Pitch Black” air combat exercise kicked off this week with an array of jets that marks its biggest iteration ever since starting in 1981.

US MILITARY

Marines on the hunt for rifle-mounted jammers to defeat enemy drones.  This, as it looks for solutions to meet an “emerging urgent requirement” for new tools to help dismounted troops fend off small enemy drones.

CSAF wants airmen to read up on drone warfare. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David W. Allvin wants Airmen to study up on drone warfare in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, citing their “transformative impact” on modern warfare.

My Uncle, Jules Demeter, worked for the Government after WW2 helping rebuild factories & companies all over Europe and the world. His last duty was in Iraq just before Hussein took control. I have photos of him meeting with Heads of state of these countries as part of his efforts. Every four years after an election He and all the people in his sphere of operation were required to Automatically submit a letter of resignation. It was for the new administrations province to accept it or ignore it at the will of the ew or existing leaders. He worked through several different political administrations without being let go. I was too young to0 know what policy this was but I believe it is the perfect answer to JD Vance’s and Trump’s proposal to vent all mid Government employees such as was done during my Uncle’s tenure from the forties through the sixties. Sincerely Fred R. Gefken a staunch MAGA supporter!

JD has the right concept as there are two purposes: 1) eliminate politicization of our federal agencies, 2) dramatically reduce the size of our gov’t. That being said, let’s be careful not to throw the baby out with the bath water. There are some legitimately centrist employees who have been forced in one direction in order to retain his/her career. It would be exemplary to identify those and enable them to provide some level of consistency in the operations of these agencies. I’m only talking about the agencies that need to be there, so 5-8 should be eliminated completely.
