In the company of colleagues Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Jimmy Johnson, and Rob Gronkowski, each visibly displaying their respect with hands on their hearts, Strahan’s stance drew attention. Critics quickly labeled the move as “disrespectful” and even “unpatriotic,” arguing that he failed to honor the military personnel present.

Strahan Responds to the Controversy
In response, Strahan posted a heartfelt tribute to his late father, Major Gene W. Strahan Sr., on Instagram, sharing a photograph from his father’s military service. Strahan’s post read:
“Thank you to all veterans and active service members who courageously risk their lives to protect us every day. Your selfless service is beyond measure. Just as I honor my father, I keep all of you in my thoughts each and every day as we would not have the safety and freedoms we cherish without you. Thank You.”
However, his words didn’t quell the backlash. Many fans remained unswayed, interpreting the post as damage control rather than genuine patriotism.
Absence from Good Morning America
The controversy intensified when Strahan was absent from his regular co-hosting role on Good Morning America on Monday. Fans were quick to speculate whether his absence was connected to the incident, though no official comment was made by ABC.

Just as I was telling my wife, during the National Anthem, I can guarantee you not one person there is taking a knee… WTF!!!!
He has no sense of respect. He must go. I’m sure he can find solace in another venue.
I can’t believe anyone watches the NFL anymore. It’s boring. I have to thank Mike Tomlin for providing more time and freedom from the TV on gamedays. His non-political political statement was enough for me to turn against the team I had rooted for since the 60’s. You can also thank Kapernick for his constant political statements. I don’t want politics with my entertainment.
On top of that the talent is marginal and the officiating is questionable… the games are rigged.
