American defense priorities after Ukraine. Russia's war against Ukraine has revealed the rot within Moscow's military machine. Kyiv's impressive battlefield successes imposed major losses on Russia in terms of territory, manpower, and materiel. The tide has turned in a brutal war of attrition. Russia's gains are being reversed ever so slowly and at significant cost to all sides. But Ukraine has not won yet, and it still has far to go in terms of regaining control of its territory as winter approaches. There are a variety of scenarios about when and how the war ends.

HOMELAND SECURITY

The Guard's border missions continue. As the New Year approaches, thousands of members of the National Guard remain posted to the U.S.-Mexico border as part of two distinct missions intended to address record levels of migration there.

CHINA THREAT

China accuses US of distorting facts after aircraft clash in air. A U.S. military plane involved in a confrontation with Chinese aircraft in disputed southern waters last week had violated international law and put the safety of Chinese pilots at risk, a defense ministry spokesman said.

U.S.-China-Taiwan tensions aren't going away any time soon. Washington, Beijing and Taipei all finished out the year by making strong moves to bolster their respective positions on Taiwan's sovereignty.

PROTECTING GUAM FROM CHINESE MISSILES – Army seeks mid-range missile to cover operational gaps. The Missile Defense Agency is considering new technologies – coupled with current capabilities – to protect Guam from future threats from adversaries – CHINA and NORTH KOREA.

Why India and China are fighting in the Himalayas. On a freezing December day on a remote Himalayan mountain ridge, Indian and Chinese soldiers fought with sticks, stones, clubs and bare fists. Scores were bloodied and injured. The incident, according to the Indian authorities, occurred on Dec. 9, when about 300 soldiers from the People's Liberation Army of China attempted to occupy Yangtse, a mountainous border post on the disputed India-China border in the Tawang area in northeastern India.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

Moscow says Ukrainian rocket strike kills 63 Russian troops. Ukrainian forces fired rockets at a facility in the eastern Donetsk region where Russian soldiers were stationed, killing 63 of them, Russia's defense ministry said Monday, in one of the deadliest attacks on the Kremlin's forces since the war began more than 10 months ago.

Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, day 314. Kyiv has claimed responsibility for an attack in Makiivka, a Russian-held city in Donetsk, which Russia said killed 63 soldiers. The Ukrainian defense ministry said the death toll is closer to 400.

In Romania, US troops train close to Russia's war, in signal to Moscow. The deployment to a NATO country near the conflict in Ukraine is seen as a model of deterrence for a U.S. military that has recently stepped back from direct fighting.

Renewed Russian attacks mark Ukraine's grim start to 2023. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praises Ukrainians' ‘sense of unity' in the face of Russian bombardment.

Ukraine is using its old tanks as artillery amid trench warfare in Bakhmut. “It gives you an extra nudge. You see what you've done, that you have helped the infantry, and you just want to keep on going.”

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY – NATO, MIDDLE EAST, ASIA, AFRICA

Allied military operations killed more than 600 ISIS fighters in 2022. United States and allied operations in the Middle East in 2022 killed more than 600 Islamic State insurgents.

FINALLY – Britain to proscribe Iran's Revolutionary Guard as terror group – Telegraph. Britain will officially declare Iran's Revolutionary Guard, which has arrested seven people with links to the United Kingdom over anti- protests, as a terrorist group, the Telegraph reported.

New in 2023: US troops in Europe to continue deployments, training. Roughly 20,000 troops mobilized in Europe in support of NATO since Russia's invasion of Ukraine are on track to stay in place going into the new year, training not only with local partners, but with Ukrainian troops outside of their country.

CLUELESS LEFTIST RETURNS – Lula takes over in Brazil, slams Bolsonaro's anti-democratic threats. Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was sworn in as Brazil's president on Sunday, delivering a searing indictment of far-right former leader Jair Bolsonaro and vowing a drastic change of course to rescue a nation plagued by hunger, poverty, and racism. SOCIALISM WILL ONLY MAKE THINGS WORSE.

Mali sentences 46 Ivory Coast soldiers to 20 years in prison. A court in the West African country has jailed the soldiers for conspiring against the government.

NORTH KOREA THREAT

South Korea, US discussing nuclear exercises as tensions flare with North -Yoon. Seoul and Washington are discussing possible joint exercises using U.S. nuclear assets, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol said, while North Korean leader Kim Jong Un branded the South its “undoubted enemy” in flaring cross-border tensions.

North Korea fires Kim's No. 2 military official. North Korea has fired Pak Jong Chon, the second most powerful military official after leader Kim Jong Un, state reported.

North Korea fires 3 ballistic missiles towards Sea of Japan. North Korea has fired three short-range ballistic missiles towards the Sea of Japan, the latest launches in a year that has seen an unprecedented barrage of missile tests by an increasingly belligerent Pyongyang.

BIDEN'S AFGHAN DISASTER

Afghan refugees in US face uncertainty as legislation stalls. The Afghan Adjustment Act would allow Afghans who came to the U.S. during the Afghanistan evacuation to be re-vetted and apply for a permanent status.

US MILITARY

  1. Just the continuation of Traitor Bama’s destroying the Militaryand Traitor Biden following his boss! Obama said in his first run for President, his goal was to make America’s military no stronger than any military in the Middle East! That is probably the reason f the removal of 600 Admirals and Generals and kept the yes men to the Democratic Agenda! Gen Miley is as guilty as Traitors Biden and Obama! None have defended the Constitution, the laws of the land or the Oath they swore to uphold!
