Democrat Senator Hospitalized

-

Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman (D) was hospitalized Wednesday evening while participating in a Democrat retreat.

According to Sen. Fetterman's office, he was taken to George Washington Hospital after feeling “lightheaded” but did “not show evidence of a new stroke.”

“Towards the end of the Senate Democratic retreat today, Senator began feeling lightheaded. He left and called his staff, who picked him up and drove him to The George Washington University Hospital. Initial tests did not show evidence of a new stroke, but doctors are running more tests and John is remaining overnight for observation,” Fetterman's communications director, Joe Calvello, said in the statement.

“He is in good spirits and talking with his staff and family,” his office said.

The Pennsylvania Democrat's office has yet to release any specific details surrounding the Senator's most recent hospitalization. However, critics have already begun to draw questions over the true severity of his condition.

Fetterman, 53, had a stroke during his Senate campaign last year. The then-lieutenant governor suffered the massive stroke days before the Democrat primary in May and spent much of the following months in recovery. He underwent a procedure days after his stroke to implant a pacemaker and was discharged from the hospital a few days later. Fetterman was elected to the Senate last year, defeating Republican opponent Mehmet Oz in a contentious battle for the seat previously held by Pat Toomey.

In an Associated Press profile after his victory, Fetterman was described as having an auditory processing disorder, which can affect a person's ability to understand speech.
