Iconic actress and international sex symbol Raquel Welch has sadly passed away.

She was 82.

Welch gained notoriety for the 1966 back-to-back roles in “Fantastic Voyage” and “One Million Years B.C.”

However, it wasn’t the expert delivery of her few lines in “B.C” that catapulted the Hollywood starlet to international fame– it was her costume. The simple and skimpy deerskin bikini catapulted her to sex symbol status.

The small role landed Welch bigger acting gigs throughout her career. The actress later won a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her 1974 role in “The Three Musketeers.”

According to TMZ, who first reported the news, Welch was named one of the “100 Sexiest Stars in Film History” in an issue of Empire magazine in 1995 … and was ranked #3 in Playboy’s “100 Sexiest Stars of the 20th Century.”

In 1994, Welch received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In 2014, Welch appear on the O’Reilly Factor to discuss her conservative values which she attributed to her mother’s Midwestern values.

According to family members, Raquel died this morning after a brief illness.

Nancy grew up in the South where her passion for politics first began. After getting her BA in journalism from Ole Miss she became an arts and culture writer for Athens Magazine where she enjoyed reporting on the eclectic music and art scene in Athens, GA.

However, her desire to report on issues and policies impacting everyday Americans won out and she packed her bags for Washington, DC. Now, she splits her time between the Nation’s Capital and Philadelphia where she covers the fast-paced environment of politics, business, and news.
In her off time, you can find Nancy exploring museums or enjoying brunch with friends.

RIP to one of my favorites. She was beautiful, had great comedic timing and didn’t whine about being a “sex symbol.”. Loved her in so many roles.
