In a rare moment of bipartisan unity, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton publicly praised President Donald Trump for his role in brokering a historic peace deal between Israel and Palestine, marking a dramatic shift in the two-year conflict that has devastated the Gaza Strip.
Speaking to CBS News 24/7, Clinton commended the Trump administration’s leadership and diplomatic maneuvering in securing a path forward for peace in the region.
“I really commend President Trump and his administration,” Clinton said. “As well as Arab leaders in the region, for making the commitment to the 20-point plan and seeing a path forward for what’s often called ‘the day after.’”
A Historic Breakthrough in Gaza
Clinton’s remarks came shortly after Hamas stunned international observers by agreeing to the Trump-led peace deal, a bold diplomatic arrangement that is being hailed as a potential end to one of the region’s most devastating conflicts.
Under the 20-point agreement, the following steps are expected:
- Release of the remaining 48 Israeli hostages, possibly as early as Monday.
- Israeli forces to withdraw from Gaza in stages.
- Hamas to be disarmed, under international supervision.
- Establishment of a transitional governing body for Gaza, led by an international coalition.
- The aspiration for an independent Palestinian state, though the specific framework remains to be defined.
Crowds reportedly gathered in “Hostages Square” in Tel Aviv, some holding signs reading “Thank you Mr. President” in reference to Trump, alongside others demanding an end to the war.
Clinton: “Let’s Support This Process”
Clinton, who served as Secretary of State under President Barack Obama and has long advocated for a two-state solution, urged Americans and the international community to rally behind the deal.
“Let’s now support this process and bring it together,” she said, “not just in a nonpartisan way in our own country, but literally internationally as a great global commitment to try to bring peace, security, stability and a better future to the Middle East.”
She also credited the Trump administration for capitalizing on a diplomatic opening following a failed peace summit in Qatar in September, where Hamas leaders were targeted by Israeli airstrikes — an event Clinton says “created a moment of reckoning.”
“That provided an opening for both President Trump and his representatives to marshal all of the regional powers,” she said. “It also made it clear to Israel: ‘No, this is now enough. This conflict needs to end, and we’ve got to move on.’”
Growing Bipartisan Recognition
Clinton is not alone among Democrats in acknowledging the success of the Trump-led peace effort. Jake Sullivan, former National Security Advisor under Joe Biden, also credited the Trump team — albeit reluctantly: “It’s only now, after all that time, that we have gotten to a deal,” Sullivan said.
Even former President Barack Obama, who weighed in on social media platform X, praised the agreement — though notably did not mention Trump by name, drawing criticism from some corners.
Still, the bipartisan praise marks a surprising moment in a sharply divided political climate, especially given Clinton and Trump’s combative history. Their 2016 presidential battle was among the most contentious in modern American politics, making Clinton’s remarks all the more notable.
What Comes Next?
While the framework is in place, questions remain about implementation, security enforcement, and long-term political solutions for both Israelis and Palestinians. The transitional authority for Gaza is expected to be formed in the coming weeks, with international partners including Egypt, Qatar, the U.S., and several EU nations reportedly participating.
Trump has not yet publicly responded to Clinton’s praise, but his Truth Social feed has been filled with posts celebrating what he has described as a “monumental peace victory.”
With the world watching, and long-standing foes acknowledging unexpected progress, the Trump-brokered Gaza peace deal may go down as a defining moment in 21st-century Middle East diplomacy — and one that, at least for now, has brought together even the most unlikely of allies.
