Author E. Jean Carroll is seeking to amend her civil suit against former President Donald Trump to include his comments from a CNN town hall.
Carroll's attorneys claimed Trump's denial and comments about Carroll, one day after being found by a jury to have sexually abused and defamed her, “show the depth of his malice.”
CNN proceeded to air the town hall despite attacks from its newfound liberal critics.
Reflecting on the 45th president's performance, former Fox News kingpin Bill O'Reilly argued that his decision to talk about Carroll “put himself in jeopardy.”
For Trump's latest remarks, Carroll seeks an additional $10 million in damages.
Per CNBC:
The move came as her lawyers asked a Manhattan federal court judge for permission to amend that first defamation lawsuit, which she lodged against Trump in 2019, to reflect his new statements on CNN about her, which they say also are defamatory.
“Trump's defamatory statements post-verdict show the depth of his malice toward Carroll since it is hard to imagine defamatory conduct that could possibly be more motivated by hatred, ill will, or spite,” the proposed amended complaint said.
“This conduct supports a very substantial punitive damages award in Carroll's favor both to punish Trump, to deter him from engaging in further defamation, and to deter others from doing the same,” the complaint said.
Carroll's second lawsuit, filed in late 2022 and alleging rape and defamation, ended with a jury in that court after less than three hours of deliberations finding Trump liable for sexually abusing her and for defaming her last fall when he denied her allegations.
Responding to Monday night's developments, Trump lawyer Alina Habba said, “Ms. Carroll's eleventh-hour attempt to amend her complaint exposes the true motivation behind her numerous lawsuits.”

These law suits are getting ridiculous! No longer allowed to have an opinion has become common place. These so called law suits do not allow all evidence to be presented. The accuser is not required to present any evidence, an accusation is enough. It is a witch hunt.

Third of all, IF someone attempted to “assault” someone in a department store dressing room, other customers and employees would have heard the ruckus — these dressing rooms are NOT sound proof!!
