Six House Republicans broke with GOP leadership on Wednesday, joining Democrats to advance legislation that would provide billions of dollars in additional support to Ukraine despite ongoing opposition from President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson.

The House voted 218-204 in favor of a discharge petition that forces consideration of the Ukraine Support Act, a measure that had remained stalled for more than a year after Republican leaders declined to bring it to the floor.

The vote marks one of the most significant bipartisan challenges to Republican leadership on foreign.

El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele has declined to facilitate the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident mistakenly deported to El Salvador by the Trump administration. Despite a U.S. Supreme Court ruling directing the administration to “facilitate” Abrego Garcia’s return, Bukele’s government has not taken steps to release him from custody. Abrego Garcia remains detained in El Salvador’s high-security Center for Terrorism Confinement (CECOT) prison.

The U.S. Department of Justice has acknowledged the deportation was an “administrative error” but contends that federal courts lack the authority to compel the executive branch to act in foreign affairs. A federal judge has mandated daily updates on Abrego Garcia’s status and scheduled a hearing to address the issue further.

The New York Times reports:

In an appearance at the White House with President Trump, President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador said his country would not order the return a Maryland man who was mistakenly deported. Mr. Bukele’s visit came as the Trump administration has stepped up its use of a notorious Salvadoran prison to hold migrants deported by the United States.

According to The Times‘ White House correspondent, “Trump was beaming as President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador rejected any notion that he would help return Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, who was wrongfully deported, to the United States and insulted reporters pressing on the administration’s compliance with the court order. Trump is clearly pleased with Bukele’s performance.”

Stephen Miller, the White House deputy chief of staff, said it was El Salvador’s decision whether to release the wrongfully deported man or not. Miller said that Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, the wrongfully deported immigrant, was removed because he had a deportation order. Garcia, however, had protection from deportation from an immigration court.

President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador rejected any notion that he would return Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia to the United States, saying it would be akin to smuggling “a terrorist” into the United States. In fact, the Trump administration has said in court that the deportation of Mr. Abrego was an “administrative error.” The Supreme Court last week ordered the administration to “facilitate” Garcia’s return, but the Trump administration has argued that only the president has authority over foreign policy. Stephen Miller, the architect of Trump’s immigration agenda, also scoffed at questions over returning Garcia, arguing that he was now in the custody of Bukele.

The case has sparked debate over the separation of powers and the extent of judicial authority in immigration matters. While the Supreme Court’s 9-0 order emphasized the need for the government to “facilitate” Abrego Garcia’s return, it also acknowledged the executive branch’s discretion in foreign policy.

While President Bukele’s refusal to cooperate has been welcomed by the White House, it has drawn sharp criticism from human rights advocates and legal experts, who argue the continued detention of Abrego Garcia violates international norms and undermines the rule of law.

Those “human rights experts” are sociopaths. Why do they think it is alright for these criminals to stay in the U.S., and to stay free? If I had been on the Capitol grounds on Jan 6th it’s doubtful I would have been allowed to remain free, even though I committed no illegal acts. Yet, those “experts” are OK with letting known criminals roam around free. Insanity, and sociopathy.

Whenever the Left or main stream media is throwing the term “rights” around, you can always be sure that someone else’s basic rights are being trampled on. If we as citizens don’t have a ‘right’ to put criminals where they can’t threaten or harm us, then many more rights are being threatened than those of the individual who’s “right’s” they want to protect at our expense. That has always been the problem with “rights” when it comes to the Left, who are always defending the ‘rights’ of the criminal, at the direct expense of everyone else’s rights.
