In a bold move to enforce accountability and efficiency within the federal government, Elon Musk, the head of the White House’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), announced on Saturday that all federal employees will soon be required to report their weekly accomplishments—or face potential resignation.
Musk, who was appointed to lead the initiative under President Donald Trump’s directive, revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that all federal workers would receive an email asking them to list the tasks they completed over the past week in five bullet points, excluding classified information. The deadline for submission is set for midnight on the following Monday, and Musk made it clear that failure to respond would be interpreted as a resignation from their positions.
This new measure is part of the Trump administration’s broader initiative to reduce inefficiencies and bureaucracy within the federal workforce, a theme that has dominated his administration’s agenda. The White House is pushing for a more streamlined government, and Musk’s leadership in DOGE reflects this desire to ensure government workers are more accountable for their time and productivity.
President Trump praised Musk for his work at DOGE, although he urged the entrepreneur to adopt an even more aggressive approach to tackling inefficiencies within the federal workforce. Speaking before a packed crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C., Trump underscored the importance of Musk’s role in cleaning up the “swamp” of bureaucracy.
Musk, who also attended CPAC, made headlines by raising a chainsaw—given to him by Argentine President Javier Milei—during his speech, symbolizing his commitment to cutting through bureaucratic red tape. The image resonated with the conference’s audience, who viewed it as a statement of his willingness to tackle entrenched government inefficiency.
The new work reporting requirements come after Trump signed a January 20 executive order mandating that all federal employees return to in-person work. The order stipulates that remote work arrangements are to end, except in “exceptional situations,” signaling a shift back toward more traditional workplace structures within the federal government.
Musk’s involvement in government efficiency is part of a larger vision from the Trump administration to reshape the federal bureaucracy, which critics argue has become bloated. By instituting strict accountability measures and requiring tangible results from employees, the administration hopes to foster a culture of productivity and responsibility within government agencies.
The push for accountability aligns with Trump’s broader efforts to combat what he often refers to as the “Deep State”—a term used by his supporters to describe a network of career civil servants who, they argue, have worked against his administration’s goals.
While some federal employees may view these measures as draconian, others see them as a much-needed shakeup of a system they believe is ripe for reform. The response to the new requirements will likely vary across the federal workforce, with those who are accustomed to more flexible work arrangements potentially feeling the brunt of the changes.
As the Trump administration pushes forward with its government reform agenda, the actions taken by Elon Musk at DOGE will be pivotal in determining the future of the federal workforce. With reporting requirements, an end to remote work, and aggressive personnel changes, the administration is signaling a desire to hold federal employees to higher standards of productivity.

I’m sure this must be some form of discrimination. It will certainly be labeled as such by the unions and the other Democrats
Musk is great. He has to understand the employees jobs as in what they do daily. They will look for overlaps and duplications. As this progresses it is a fair way to assess waste in jobs and duties per each agency and across agencies. And it is the best way to fairly clean out the waste at the expense of taxpayers. I love it.
As a CPA, BSA, Programmer I had to do similar things in the businesses I worked for. I generally went in to help improve things like Musk and his team or teams will be doing on a much larger scale. Even small businesses need to do this regularly. But the USA bureacrats are gonna hate it. Play time as the expense of the taxpayers is OVER!
There are other steps in this process so I am looking forward to the next ASK from Musk! He and his team are going to find so much garbage but that is money back in the hands of the taxpayers finally.
And NO MORE budget rushes to spend money as the end of the year so they can ask for more. And yes I watched that via a contact with the FBI at just one of its appendages! The disposal of the excess at that end of the year time is quite a hoot! Salvage people stand in line just to get some of the goods the bureau was tossing out and remember this is just one of their sites all over the country! Some of it was trash but likely restorable and most was perfectly good, still functional! Maybe dated but for the purpose probably just fine.
As they should for any business esp

In one of my earlier periods of employment I was required to submit a weekly performance report even though it was an understandable annoyance but made sense in the long run..
