A Nebraska sheriff says federal authorities won’t return his calls after his department arrested two suspected illegal immigrants who killed a bald eagle and planned to eat it.
The two men are Honduran nationals who don’t speak English. Using a translation app, they told deputies they had killed a vulture.
Speaking to The Washington Free Beacon, the sheriff said the feds could keep the men behind bars but won’t help his department:
The incident has left Stanton County, Neb., residents “disturbed” and “offended,” county sheriff Mike Unger told the Washington Free Beacon. And as of right now, the two suspects are allowed to roam the country freely. The two men were charged with misdemeanors, and Nebraska law dictates the pair can’t be held in jail before their March 28 trial.

Killing a bald eagle is a violation of the 1940 Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, a federal law that carries a punishment of up to one year in prison. Federal authorities must bring those charges—in this case the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. But Unger says he’s reached out repeatedly to the agency and has gotten only silence. A spokeswoman for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service did not respond to a request for comment.
“I’m very frustrated with the federal government,” Unger said.
There is precedent for federal charges to be brought against bald eagle murderers. In June, a 79-year-old Tuscarawas County, Ohio, man pleaded guilty to killing a bald eagle while hunting groundhogs on his property. The man was forced to pay a $10,000 fine to the court and another $10,000 in restitution to the Fish and Wildlife Service. He was also barred from hunting for five years.
Since President Biden took office, more than 5.5 million migrants have crossed the U.S.-Mexico border.

If I killed a bald eagle regardless of whether I intended to eat it, I’d be arrested, judged and sentenced for the crime. But I would also be ashamed for killing our national bird. So the illegals are going to get away with it allegedly because they didn’t know any better and couldn’t find free food for immigrants anywhere close. That alone mystifies me! But the big thing is where did they get the gun(s)? Somehow they got around extensive gun laws to find a firearm which they weren’t legally allowed to own.

We will see a lot more acts by immigrants which shock us, because we aren’t used to being overrun by so many people who come from third world countries. Many of them don’t live like we do. They don’t share our sensibilities.
Example: I used to work at a high end stationery store. A Honduran woman and her grandson were there while her relative was looking at wedding invitations. The woman asked where the bathroom was, which opened to the showroom and had only a single toilet (no stalls). She went in and pulled down her pants without closing the door, conversing with the grandson the whole time she was using the toilet.
I was shocked, but thought about it and realized people who crowd multigenerational family into small apartments don’t have the luxury of privacy.
If a citizen found a Bald Eagle feather on the ground and picked it up, they could be charged with a crime. So I guess killing a Bald Eagle intentionally isn’t a crime for non-citizens.
More details: These illegal aliens had a gun? Why is the Biden Administration avoiding legal arrest for illegally having and using a GUN, on top of killing a bald eagle? Is there any evidence that the aliens had even registered with Border Patrol when they entered the USA?

The Biden Administration, the Democrat party and the mainstream media have decided that American Laws, Constitutional rights and American’s who believe in traditional American values should be eliminated in favor of a one party, communist style government where might is right and citizenship is granted by selective political process. I cannot believe these two men thought that eagles were vultures. This looks to me to be an attempt at making an excuse for killing a bald eagle. They should be deported for this as well as for breaking our immigration laws. There are other birds these men could have killed to eat that would be better for eating than eagles. There are hunting seasons in Nebraska for pheasants and turkeys.
