Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has confirmed that the Department of Justice is investigating Rep. Salud Carbajal (D‑Calif.) after Immigration and Customs Enforcement accused him of doxxing an agent during a raid on cannabis farms in Carpinteria and Camarillo, California. According to eyewitnesses, Carbajal handed protesters an agent’s business card, putting the officer at risk from a violent crowd.
We take all allegations of inciting violence or doxing of federal employees very seriously—no one is above the law, and members of Congress are no exception. On July 10, ICE — backed by National Guard troops — raided two cannabis farms amid allegations of unauthorized immigrant labor and child exploitation. The operation also involved tear gas and munitions to control a crowd of protesters.
Ostensibly seeking to perform oversight, Rep. Carbajal tried to enter the raid zone but was blocked by authorities — who refused to allow him past the security perimeter. He later reiterated accusations that ICE used disproportionate force — including stun grenades, one of which allegedly injured a child.
During the federal raids, someone fired a gun at ICE/Homeland Security agents. The FBI subsequently offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the individual responsible.
Authorities are actively pursuing the suspect.

Around the same time, ICE alleges that Carbajal displayed the business card of a public affairs officer to an agitated crowd — who then attacked the agent, causing injuries.
Carbajal refutes the claim, asserting that he only received the card “to report the raid” and shared it to provide contact info — not to incite violence.
🏛️ Why It Matters
- Legal implications: Doxxing a federal agent could expose Carbajal to criminal liability if intent to endanger is proven.
- Separation of powers: The issue also highlights tensions between lawmakers’ oversight authority and enforcement operations.
- Political stakes: Carbajal is a prominent figure and potential California Senate candidate; the investigation could carry both legal and reputational risks.
