A judge in Wayne County, Michigan has denied a request to keep former President Donald Trump off of the 2024 presidential primary ballot.
Court of Claims Judge Robert Redford found state election officials lacked the authority to keep Trump off the ballot based on the 14th Amendment’s “insurrectionist ban.”

The rulings mark a major victory for the former president, who has a commanding lead in the 2024 Republican presidential primary race, according to recent polling.
The 45th president faces similar challenges in other states to disqualify him from becoming president again. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) testified on day one of Colorado’s 14th Amendment trial late last month, as American Liberty News reported:
Swalwell choked back tears as he recounted how Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) handed him a pen during the riot to use as a weapon if necessary.
Six Coloradans, including Republicans and unaffiliated voters, filed the lawsuit in early September to prevent Trump from appearing on the western state’s ballot in a historic but unlikely bid. The government watchdog Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, or CREW, supports their efforts.
Despite the challenge’s long-shot status, the petitioners surprised observers by defeating Trump’s attorneys and the Colorado GOP in a series of pretrial motions to dismiss the case.
