Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent acknowledged Wednesday that he threatened to “kick ass” during a heated confrontation last year, while firmly denying reports that he threatened to punch the now-acting Director of National Intelligence “in the face.”

The unusual exchange emerged during a Senate Finance Committee hearing, where Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) pressed Bessent about reports surrounding a confrontation between the two Trump administration officials during the summer of 2025.

According to Bessent, one key detail in the widely circulated account was inaccurate.

A group of county sheriffs in Missouri has formed a new, pro-Second Amendment organization to protect the rights of “Show-Me State” citizens, making a formal announcement this week, according to KCTV News.

by Dave Workman for The Gun Mag

The Missouri Sheriff’s Constitutional Firearms Alliance (MSCFA) is headquartered in Jefferson City, but includes sheriffs from across the state. Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase is president of the group. KCTV quoted him explaining, “I believe that the sheriffs here who answer to the people and uphold the constitution, we are best to represent the people here in protecting their Second Amendment right.”

KFMO News is reporting the group is planning several training events and safety forums.

In a telephone interview with Sheriff Degase, he explained the goal of the new alliance is to be “proactive” especially in terms of legislation. His group will be on the lookout for bills which may be introduced ostensibly to protect gun owners, but in the process, tie the hands of law enforcement.

Degase said he and his colleagues want to focus on criminals and leave honest citizens—and their rights-alone.

On the group’s website, one finds the following:

What It Means to Defend the Second Amendment

Defending the Second Amendment means standing firm in the belief that the right to keep and bear arms is not negotiable—it is a constitutional guarantee that underpins our freedoms as Americans. It means ensuring that responsible, law-abiding citizens retain their right to own firearms for protection, hunting, sport shooting, and other lawful purposes without unnecessary government interference.

Defending the Second Amendment also means:

  • Educating citizens about their constitutional rights and responsibilities.
  • Opposing efforts that seek to infringe upon or erode those rights through legislation, regulation, or executive action.
  • Supporting policies that target criminals who misuse firearms, not the citizens who use them responsibly.

“What Defending the Second Amendment Looks Like

Defending the Second Amendment is an active, ongoing effort that touches every corner of Missouri. It looks like:

  • Advocacy in Action: Speaking out against legislation that would restrict or infringe on lawful gun ownership.
  • Education and Outreach: Hosting workshops and distributing resources to help citizens understand their rights and how to exercise them safely and responsibly.
  • Supporting Law Enforcement: Working alongside sheriffs and police departments to uphold public safety while respecting constitutional liberties.”

Attempts to contact the organization were initially unsuccessful.

The Alliance is promising to engage in legislative advocacy supporting pro-Second Amendment legislation “and oppose measures that threaten constitutional rights.” Additionally, MSCFA says it will “build partnerships with sheriffs’ offices, local gun clubs, and community organizations to host educational events, firearm safety seminars, and public forums.”

“These efforts ensure Missourians are informed and empowered to protect their rights,” the group says.
